Thursday is last day to register to vote for May 7 election

Thursday, April 7 is the deadline to register to vote in the May 7 municipal and constitutional amendment elections.

Eligible voters can check their registration status online at the Texas Secretary of State's website or by calling the local elections administrator.

Lubbock County residents can check with the Lubbock County Elections Office and fill out an application if needed until 5 p.m. Thursday. The elections office is located at 1308 Crickets Ave. The phone number is (806) 775-1339.

Additionally, voter registration applications by mail that are postmarked by Thursday will be accepted.

As of Wednesday, there were 184,088 registered voters in Lubbock County, according to data provided by the elections office.

Voters in Lubbock will be choosing their next mayor and several city council members. Additionally, voters statewide will decide whether to amend the Texas constitution dealing with property taxes. Early voting will run from April 25 to May 3.
