The rundown: The Huskies and Lions met in the area round of the 2021 playoffs last season. Clint gave the Huskies an early wake up call, scoring on the first play of the game, but Hirschi proved to be superior in an easy 53-19 victory at Midland’s Grande Communications Stadium. … This year’s game is also being played at a neutral site with Andrews’ Mustang Bowl hosting. The game was originally slated to be played at King Stadium in Midland, but Greenwood High School was still having maintenance conducted on it. … Clint runs the wishbone, giving the Huskies a look at an offense they won’t see often. The Lions averaged 392.1 rushing yards per game last season but graduated four of their top five rushers. Senior Kevin Quezada is the top returner, racking up 518 yards and three TDs on 74 carries. … This is the beginning of a season with high expectations for the Huskies after advancing to the state semifinals and nearly defeating eventual state champion Stephenville last season. Hirschi and Clint dropped from Class 4A Division I to Division II this season. Clint was picked to finish third in District 1-4A by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football magazine.

Coach Speak: “We’re going to have to be disciplined on defense. They run the triple-option, and anytime you face a veer team, you have to be on your assignment. We have to watch the dive, the quarterback and the pitch man. … We showed our players the very first play of last year’s playoff game. They housed it on the first play because we weren’t disciplined. We can’t start a game that way with a negative play on our behalf.”

Restaurant suggestion: Buddy’s Drive In. Buddy’s is an institution in Andrews known for its incredible steak fingers. When in Andrews, you must eat at Buddy’s. PigskinPrep.com says: Hirschi by 39.
