THURSDAY PREPS: Dora contingents wrap up 6-0 district slates

Feb. 18—DORA — Dora's basketball teams wrapped up perfect runs through District 4-1A on Thursday night, with the boys defeating Elida 72-59 while the girls bested the Lady Tigers 52-11.

In the boys game, the Coyotes (19-6, 6-0) gradually built their lead, outscoring the Tigers 27-23 in the final stanza to put the game away. Senior Steven Masini netted a personal-best 41 points for Dora while senior Kegan Rodriguez was next in line with nine points.

For Elida (9-13, 3-2), junior Seth Jimenez finished with 22 points and senior Jose Jimenez added 15.

On the girls side, juniors Faith Jasso with 21 points and Bre'Ann Rodriguez with 11 paced the Lady Coyotes (17-8, 6-0), followed by sophomore Justice Deason and freshman Dakota Jones with eight apiece. Top scorer for the Lady Tigers (3-15, 2-3), whose roster includes eight freshman and eighth-graders, was eighth-grader Reatta Munsell with three points.

Dora's teams will host this week's district tournament championship games — girls on Friday, boys on Saturday.

In other area boys games on Thursday:

Fort Sumner 72, Clovis Christian 59 — The Class 1A top-ranked Foxes completed a perfect run through District 6-1A at CCS with their 16th consecutive victory.

The teams combined for 19 3-pointers, 10 by Fort Sumner (24-2, 8-0 district). Junior Joaquin Segura had three treys and 20 points for the Foxes, while senior Seth Saiz added two en route to 16, junior Cash Burney scored 12 and freshman Jordan Holland collected three 3s for nine points.

Senior Carter Teune had 17 points, senior Noah Gershon 13 and junior Noah McKay 10 for the Eagles (16-9, 3-5). Gershon had three 3s and McKay two.

Logan 61, Grady 59 — At Grady, the Longhorns survived as a potential tying shot by the Bronchos in the closing seconds was off the mark.

Junior Kaeden Stoner had three of his four 3-pointers and 11 of his 14 points in the first quarter to help stake Logan (16-10, 3-5 District 6-1A) to a 25-13 advantage. Freshman Mason Wallin led the Longhorns with 17 points, while junior Brock Burns chipped in 12.

Junior Zane Rush had 21 points and senior Carlos Marin notched 18 for the Bronchos (7-14, 0-7), who made it close by outscoring Logan 16-7 in the final canto.

Sophomore guard Kate Bradley went 4-for-7 from distance and led the Eagles (6-18, 6-14) with 18 points, while senior guard Kia White had 17 and junior guard Brooklin Bain 13. Junior guard-forward Deja Adrian posted a season-best 29 points and collected her sixth double-double of the campaign with 10 rebounds. Shipley finished with 14 points.

In girls action:

Logan 55, Grady 35 — The Lady Longhorns posted an 8-0 edge in 3-pointers and broke away with a 23-9 scoring edge in the final segment.

Freshman Desta Rose had two 3s and 19 points for Logan (15-10, 3-3 District 6-1A) while junior Liz Horner scored 12 points on four trifectas. For the Lady Bronchos (10-11, 0-5), sophomore Juanita Rodriguez tallied 11 points.

In a Thursday Texas Class 3A area round tilt at Littlefield, Idalou (24-12) scored an 83-34 victory over Muleshoe (17-16).
