Thursday roundup: Walsh men's basketball falters on road as Malone grabs solo lead in G-MAC

Men’s College Basketball

MALONE 73, KENTUCKY WESLEYAN 67 At Owensboro, Ky., Bo Myers scored 20 points and Bryce Butler went for 18 points and six assists as the Pioneers won on the road in G-MAC action Thursday.

Marcus Ernst and Justin Miller added 12 points each for Malone (14-4, 9-2), with Ernst grabbing 13 rebounds to give him his third straight double-double. Malone moves into sole possession of first place in the G-MAC with Walsh’s loss at Trevecca Nazarene on Thursday.

The Pioneers trailed by as many as 13 in the first half but battled back to lead by as many as 16 in the second half. They’ve won four straight and five of their last six.

Jordan Roland led Wesleyan (10-11, 5-8) with 19 points.

TREVECCA NAZARENE (TN.) 71, WALSH 64 CJ Penha went for 20 points and 18 rebounds as the Trojans knocked off Walsh on Thursday in Nashville.

The Cavaliers fall a game behind first-place Malone in the G-MAC standings as Trevecca earned just its second league win of the season.

Garrison Keeslar, the G-MAC Athlete of the Week, totaled 19 points, 13 rebounds and six assists for Walsh (12-5, 8-3). Tim Smith Jr. added 12 points.

Josh Price scored 13 points and Chris Rogers added 10 for Trevecca (5-14, 2-10).

Women’s College Basketball

WALSH 89, TREVECCA NAZARENE (TN.) 64 At Nashville, the Cavaliers shot 59.0% from the floor in winning on the road in G-MAC action Thursday night for their seventh straight victory.

Morgan McMillen shot 6-of-10 from the floor and 4-of-8 from 3-point range in scoring a team-high 18 points for Walsh (15-3, 10-2). Sha Carter scored 16 points on 7-of-9 from the floor, Mayci Sales totaled 14 points and Megan Ball added 11 points for the Cavs, who haven’t loss since New Year’s Eve vs. Ashland.

Faith Williams grabbed a team-high nine rebounds for Walsh.

Keely Carter led Trevecca (3-13, 2-8) with 22 points. Emma Palmer had 20 points and nine rebounds.

Girls High School Basketball

MANCHESTER 49, COVENTRY 24 Emma Stamperd scored 12 points and Mackenzie Moss added 10 as the visiting Panthers won in non-league action Thursday.

Manchester (6-10) led 37-13 through three quarters.

Madi Burkhart led Coventry with 11 points.

CARROLLTON 52, EAST CANTON 26 Carrollton jumped out to a 22-3 lead after the first quarter and never looked back as East Canton fell at home.

Hillari Baker was the leading scorer for Carrollton with 13 points.

WESTERN RESERVE ACADEMY 45, LAKE CENTER CHRISTIAN 29 Angelina Agresta made five 3-pointers and scored 16 points to lead Western Reserve Academy over Lake Center.

The Tigers led 6-4 after the first quarter, then were outscored 22-5 in the second quarter.

NORTHWEST 66, MASSILLON 36 Lily Bottomley and Ashley Cudnik scored 20 points apiece to lead Northwest to a road win on Wednesday night

Bottomley grabbed 13 rebounds for her double-double, while Cudnik and Gianna Kuhn had six assists each for Northwest (15-2).

Telai Mealy scored 12 points and Kaliyah Hewitt added 11 for Massillon (2-15).
