Thursday's high school scores: Case baseball tops Wareham; Durfee tennis wins 10th match

SWANSEA — The Joseph Case baseball team jumped out to an early lead and held on to beat league opponent Wareham, 6-5, at Joseph Case High School.

The Cardinals (9-4; 5-3 SCC) scored five runs in the first inning and an insurance run in the fourth inning.

Ryland Pacheco got the win on the hill, pitching the complete game. He scattered six hits, three earned runs while striking out eight.

Offensively, Cooper Khoury went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI for Case. Christian Chapman finished with a double and two RBI. Aidan Bates had a hit, a walk, scored a pair of runs and stole a base.

The Cardinals host Bourne on Friday.

Westport 22, Holbrook 0

The Wildcats scored 10 runs in the top of the first and cruised to a mercy-rule win over Holbrook.

Owen Boudria pitched three innings for the win for Westport (5-7). He allowed just two hits, walked one and fanned a batter. Boudria was also 2-for-4 at the plate with three runs scored and three RBI. Max Gallant pitched the final two innings, allowing a hit and struck out a batter. Gallant chipped in with two hits, scored three times and had an RBI.

Second baseman Matt Costa had four putouts and turned a double play.

The Wildcats host Atlantis Charter on Saturday morning.

Bristol-Plymouth 5, Atlantis Charter 4

Atlantis Charter's Jared Brown pitched six amazing innings, only letting up two earned runs, in a tight home game that didn't quite go the Tritons' way in the end.

Atlantis Charter is now 4-6 on the season. Its next game is Saturday on the road in Westport.

Holbrook 13, Westport 5

The Wildcats dropped their game against Holbrook

Peyton Mahjoory had a triple and scored three runs for Westport (3-9). Teammate

Layla Bossie went 2-for-4 with a triple and four RBI.

The Wildcats travel to Bristol Plymouth on Monday.

BOYS TENNIS

Durfee 5 New Bedford 0

The Hilltoppers swept all five matches against league opponent New Bedford for head coach Eric Gomes' 50th career win.

Jorge Beltran (6-0, 6-1), Chris Panchley (6-0, 6-1) and Will Rumsey (6-0, 6-0) each won their singles match in straight sets for Durfee (10-3; 4-1 in Southeast Conference).

At first doubles, Jack Fitzgerald and Colin Fleet won easily, 6-2, 6-2 while Mesa Dinez and Jesse Tamba won in straight sets at second doubles, 6-2, 6-1.

The Hilltoppers travel to Middleboro on Friday.

Case 4, Wareham 1

The Cardinals took four of five matches against league opponent Wareham.

Caden Capaldo won his fourth consecutive match at second singles for Case (5-7). Jacob Caron won his third consecutive match at third singles.

Freshman Alec Medeiros played his first varsity match at second doubles and won. Jacob Surrell won his sixth match at first doubles.

The Cardinals host Fairhaven on Tuesday.

Old Rochester 4, Somerset Berkley 1

The Raiders dropped four of five matches to league opponent Old Rochester.

Joseph Ramos was the lone winner for SBR (9-4) at first singles, 6-1, 6-2. Old Rochester's Jacob Hadley saved four match points at 4-5 in the second set and rallied to beat Tyler Barros 4-6, 7-5, 10-8 in a well-played marathon at second singles.

The Raiders travel to Seekonk on Monday.

GIRLS TENNIS

Durfee 4, New Bedford 1

The Hilltoppers took four of five matches from league opponent New Bedford.

Liv Rumsey won a marathon match at second singles in three sets for Durfee (5-8), 7-6, 1-6, 6-4, to improve to 9-4. Morgan Ledo won her match at third singles, 6-1, 6-0.

Brooke Tabicas and Madi Tabicas won at first doubles, 6-1, 6-3 while Syndie Duong and Gabby Farias won their match at second doubles, 6-2, 6-3.

The Hilltoppers host Middleboro on Friday.

Diman 5, Bishop Connolly 0

The Bengals swept all five matches from Bishop Connolly.

Lindsey Moniz won her match at first singles for Diman (4-2) to remain undefeated this season. Older sister Sarah Moniz won at second singles in straight sets. Elizabeth Kinnane won her match at third singles in straight sets.

Sadie Krauzyk and Sabrina Angeli won at first doubles and Olivia DeMelo and Kaydence Simoes won at second doubles.

The Bengals host West Bridgewater on Wednesday.

BOYS OUTDOOR TRACK

Diman 89, Bristol-Plymouth 47

Southeastern, 100 Diman 37

The Bengals split their meet with Southeastern and Bristol-Plymouth.

Jacob Monte was a triple winner for Diman (8-1) in the 400 hurdles (60.1), the javelin (130’ 1”) and the 100 hurdles (16.1). He was also a state qualifier in the 400 hurdles. Jacob Chouinard took first in the 400 (56.8).

Second place finishers were Zabdiel Montanez (200), Nate Nascimento (100) and Robert Hall in the javelin.

The Bengals take part in the State Vocational Championship Monday at Blue Hills.

Somerset Berkley 91, GNBVT 45

The Raiders won their final dual of the season against Greater New Bedford.

Davis Sullivan (23.5) and Brady Camara finished 1-2 in the 200 for the SBR (4-1).

Other winners include Tyler Sandford (shot put), Carlos Quevedo (discus), Tyler Scanlon (800), Nicholas Scanlon (javelin), and Nicholas Cavic (mile, 2-mile).

The Raiders will compete in South Coast Conference championships on May 19.

GIRLS TRACK

Diman 98, Bristol-Plymouth 38

Southeastern 69, Diman 67

The Lady Bengals split their meet with Southeastern and Bristol-Plymouth.

Top performers for Diman (7-1-1) was Inez Medeiros, who was a double winner in the 100 (12.8) and 200 (26.9). Other winners include Emma Foley (long jump; 16’3), Sarai Benitez (400; 1:07), Grace Flattery (high jump; 4’8), Eden McCausland (800; 3:06) and Abby Lyne (javelin; 80’ 0).

Somerset Berkley 93, GNBVT 39

The Raiders defeated Greater New Bedford in the final dual meet of the season.

Elena Cabral (200; 27.6) and Mia Gentile 400 hurdles (76.9) each had a strong performance for SBR (3-1-1).

Corryn Fisher was a triple winner in the long jump, triple jump and 110 hurdles. Karlie Cosme and Reese Swanson tied for first in the high jump. Other winners include Nicole Ledwidge (mile), Elena Cabral (100), Jocelyn Wilson (400), Lauren Rothwell (800) and Gabriella Fernandes (2-mile).

The Raiders will compete in South Coast Conference championships on May 19.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Durfee 3, Bellingham 1

The Hilltoppers won three of five sets — 25-20, 25-17, 21-25, and 25-21 — against Bellingham.

Tony Gomes had a huge day for Durfee (4-10) with 14 kill shots and seven blocks. Jack Gauvin had 27 assists while Mac Reed finished with 20 digs. Josh Sanon contributed eight kill shots and Caio Morais continued his solid season with seven kill shots and 15 digs.
