GIRLS BASKETBALL

NOTRE DAME 82, KIMBERLY 54

KIMBERLY - Trista Fayta scored 19 points and Gracie Grzesk added 17 to lead the Tritons to the big win over the Papermakers.

Notre Dame improves to 15-1 overall and is ranked second in Division 2 in the latest Associated Press girls basketball poll.

Kimberly led 16-14 in the first half but the Tritons exploded on a 20-9 run to end the half and carried that moment into the second.

Notre Dame coach Sara Rohde said the Papermakers came out in a zone defense and that confused her team early.

“Typically (Kimberly) plays man-to-man and I haven’t seen them play zone all year,” she said. “That kind of threw us for a loop and the girls needed to adjust a little bit.

“Defensively, I though we forced them into some turnovers with the press and kind of wore them down.”

Sarah Hardwick and Hope Barington scored 14 points apiece with Sydney Whitehouse adding 10. The Tritons connected on nine 3-pointers.

“I think we’re playing well,” Rohde said. “We had a big break at Christmas time ... and now I do feel like we’re picking it up a little bit. And everybody is getting into their role and playing together and I’m happy with how we’re playing.”

Emma Kilpatrick led Kimberly (11-6) with 19 points. MaKenzie Drout added 15.
