Division 2 sectional semifinals

ASHWAUBENON - Trista Fayta scored 21 points and Peyton Musial added 15 to lead the Tritons past the Foxes.

Notre Dame’s leading scorer Gracie Grzesk didn’t score in the game, a testament to the Tritons’ formidable roster.

“We kind of told Gracie at halftime if you don’t score a single point, ‘Oh well,’ because we’re up 23 points at this point and at halftime,” Notre Dame coach Sara Rohde said. “The rest of the game I didn’t know if they would stay in their Triangle-and-2 action.

“Credit to all my other girls. They were aggressive and they stepped up. We kind of prepared for that because we knew that that’s what they did to us last year. They forced the other girls to shoot. And our girls are all capable so I’m really proud that they stepped up and shot the ball and were aggressive.”

Alayna Feidt had eight points and Emily Jaenke added seven to lead FVL (24-4).

Notre Dame (26-1), the two-time defending D2 champ, will play Cedarburg in a sectional final for the right to head to the Resch Center.

“We played them a little bit this summer,” Rohde said. “They’re a guard-heavy team from the little bit I’ve watched from them. They have a lot of solid guards. They seem to communicate pretty well defensively. They pack in and switch a lot of screens, so I’m sure they’ll be good because they always have a very good program. It’s always Beaver Dam or Cedarburg coming out of that sectional final.”
