Thursday's HS roundup: WHS girls slalom wins program's first race

GILFORD – The Winnacunnet High School girls slalom ski team placed four racers in the top 11 and earned its first win in program history Thursday at Gunstock Resort.

Winnacunnet won with 379 points, while Bishop Guertin (375), Portsmouth (374) and Dover (352) placed second through fourth, respectively.

Portsmouth’s Aiden Beland placed first overall with a time of 57.14 seconds.

Winnacunnet’s Reece Gandt (third, 1:00.24), while Mackenzie Champney (fifth, 1:02.87), Emily Shepard (sixth, 1:04.56) and Danielle Crane (11th, 1:11.43) all placed.

Portsmouth’s Ruby Patrick (1:11.03) placed 10th, and teammate Noelle Gagnon (1:12.48) was 12th.

Portsmouth wins five-team race

GILFORD – Nick Davis had a combined time of 58.97 seconds and led Portsmouth to a five-team win at Gunstock Resort with a team score of 384.5.

Dover’s Ryan Hodge was first in a time of 58.03.

Dover (366), Winnacunnet (365.5), Bishop Guertin (364) and Spaulding (330) placed second through fifth, respectively. Portsmouth’s Connor Williams (fourth, 1:02.75), Will Dedeus (fifth, 1:03) and James Dedeus (seventh, 1:03.52) all placed in the top 10.

Winnacunnet’s Brodie Champney was fifth (1:03), and Dover’s Andrew Parker (1:08.56) was eighth.

SOUTH BERWICK, Maine – The Hawks had a potential game-winning basket go in and out at the buzzer of this Class A South contest.

After multiple lead changes in the final minute, Kennebunk took the lead for good with 10 seconds left.

Andrew Perry led all scorers with 26 points, and grabbed 11 rebounds. Jason Singer added 12 points for Marshwood (5-2).

CUMBERLAND, Maine – Sophomore Lukas Bouchard had 10 points and seven rebounds for York in this Class B South loss.

Ty Regis added seven points for the Wildcats.

OLD ORCHARD BEACH, Maine – Class C Old Orchard Beach improved to 8-0 with this win over Class D Seacoast Christian.

Sunny Johnson led Seacoast Christian (2-5) with 10 points and seven rebounds. Eli and Isaac Cardinal had nine and six points, respectively.

OLD ORCHARD BEACH, Maine - Seacoast Christian stayed within striking distance with Class C Old Orchard Beach for a half, but a slow third quarter was too much to overcome.

Breckyn Winship led Class D Seacoast with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Ellie Leech had 10 points, five assists and four steals. Elise McNair led Old Orchard with 26 points.

NEWMARKET – Harley Radi had 11 points and Kaya Dobberstein had six for Newmarket in this Division IV loss.

Ava Buchanan’s 15 points led PCA.
