Thursday's HS sports highlights: TCC, Sandy Valley, Conotton Valley earn bowling sweeps

Tuscarawas Central Catholic swept Dover in high school bowling action at Wabash Lanes Thursday night.

The Central boys won 2,330-2,140 as Aaron Mercier rolled a 385 series (203-182) and Salvatore Fadorsen added a 349 (151-198).

Jacob Shanklin led Dover with a 375 (199-176) and Caleb German added a 354 (198-156).

The Central girls were 2,328-2,132 winners as Marisha Gonzalez bowled a 399 (204-195) and Madeline Rothrock rolled a 373 (167-226).

Kaylie Gibson fired a 417 series (194-223) to lead the Dover girls and Sydney Zimmerman added a 368 (180-188).

Sandy Valley vs. Indian Valley

Host Sandy Valley swept Indian Valley at Carroll Lanes.

The Sandy Valley boys squeaked out a 1,693-1,630 win as Alonzo Peche rolled a 353 (165-183) and Russell Hummell had a 279 (161-118).

Grant McCray led Indian Valley with a 332 (185-147) and Daniel Grewell added a 306 (168-138).

The Sandy Valley girls were victorious 2,272-1,611 as Miah Delaney posted a 387 (171-216) and Joey Boyer bowled a 378 (195-183).

Zoe Blickensderfer led Indian Valley with a 268 (118-150) and Taylor Barrick bowled a 237 (114-123).

Conotton Valley vs. Southern Local

Conotton Valley swept visiting Southern as the boys won 2,701-1,270 behind Nolan Caldwell's 278 high game and 494 series and the girls claimed a 2,248-1,406 win as Daphne Stuber posted a 214 high game of Mylie Galigher rolled a 404 series.

Harrison Central vs. Martins Ferry

The visiting Harrison Central boys fell to Martins Ferry at St. Clair Lanes in St. Clairsville as the Purple Riders won 1,745-1,650.

Girls basketball

Harrison Central 63, Indian Creek 37

McKayla Dunkle fired in 29 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to pass Katie Ellzy as the all-time leader with 836 and counting as Harrison Central rolled to the Buckeye 8 Conference North Division crown with a win over Indian Creek.

The Buckeye 8 Championship is set for Saturday, Jan. 22 at East Liverpool as Union Local, the South champs, will take on Harrison Central.

Maddy Butler added a career high 27 points as Harrison Central jumped out to a 24-11 lead after one quarter, 43-19 at the half and 55-27 heading to the final frame.

Indian Creek won the JV contest 25-10 in two quarters.

Wooster 60, West Holmes 57, OT

Host Wooster tied West Holmes for first place in the Ohio Cardinal Conference and stopped the Knights league winning streak at 20 games as the Generals rallied for a hard-fought overtime victory.

West Holmes jumped out to a 12-0 start and led 18-9 after the opening quarter before Wooster had a big second period and closed to within 26-23 at the half. The Knights took a 35-30 lead into the final frame and the game was tied 49-49 at the end of regulation on a stickback by Grace Kostohryz off a missed free thrat the buzzer.

Eily Badertscher led the winners (9-5) with 18 points and Tori Pettorini added 16, while Kostohryz put in 10.

Kinsey Patterson led West Holmes (12-2) with 18 points and Ella McMillen added 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Wrestling

Tusky Valley Triangular

Tusky Valley defeated New Philadelphia 38-24 in a triangular at Zoarville, while Sandy Valley downed Tusky Valley 54-24 and New Phila 38-30.

Winning both matches for the Cards were Branden Boggs, Evan Natale, Brody Marks, Bam Moyer, Matt Gentry, and Wyatt Moyer. Posting 1-1 records were Brodie Diss, Lina Heredia, and Alec Trent.

OVAC Ron Mauck Championships

Dover is tied for 12th with two other teams and Harrison Central is tied for 16th with two others as well after the first day of the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference Ron Mauck Championships being held at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling.

The tournament continues Friday and Saturday.
