Thursday's Top Prep Performers: Ventura clinches Channel League girls basketball title

GIRLS BASKETBALL

  • Skyler Knight poured in 30 points, Jessie Sebek had 10 points, Emily Rea had seven points, Kai Staniland had six points, and Sarah Beckman added four points as Ventura (20-8, 11-3) defeated Dos Pueblos 57-42 to clinch the outright Channel League championship.

  • Mika Jarrett poured in 34 points, Kristan Yumul scored 17 points to eclipse 1,000 points for her career and also had eight assists, and Sofia Salgado had six points, seven rebounds and five steals as Oxnard (19-7, 10-4) beat Buena 60-55 to finish tied second with Pacifica in the Channel League. Skye Thomas scored 18 points, Karisma Lewis had 13 points and 13 rebounds, and Riannah Lopez had 13 points and six rebounds for the Bulldogs (14-10, 9-5). Buena will host San Marcos, a 69-34 winner over Rio Mesa, on Friday at 7 p.m. to determine the league's final automatic qualifying spot for the CIF-SS playoffs.

  • Mimi Moon finished with 23 points, six assists, four rebounds and four steals, Mikayla Oliver had 18 points and six rebounds, and Haven Ramirez had 15 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, four steals and two blocks as Pacifica (18-8, 10-4) defeated Santa Barbara 69-35 to finish tied for second with Oxnard in the Channel League.

  • Keilani Peralta broke the single-game program record with eight 3-pointers and finished with 24 points to lead second-place Camarillo to a 91-14 win over Moorpark in a Coastal Canyon League game. Emily Lim had 17 points, seven steals and four assists, Makenna Phelan had 13 points and four rebounds, Daniela Rocha had 12 points and four assists, Christa Contreras finished with eight points, 17 rebounds and five assists, Liz Rocha had eight points and three steals, and Victoria Luna grabbed nine rebounds for the Scorpions (15-11, 6-2), who finished second in league behind Oak Park. Peralta broke the record of seven set by Alyssa Marin, who is now is a starting guard for the UC Santa Barbara team, during the 2019-20 season. The Musketeers (5-18, 3-5) will play Simi Valley at Oak Park High on Friday at 7 p.m. to determine third place and the league's final automatic qualifying spot for the CIF-SS playoffs.

  • Lindsay Gould had 15 points and seven rebounds, Delaney White finished with 14 points, nine rebounds and seven assists, Ella Broms had eight points and 12 rebounds, Ella Shmool had eight points and five rebounds, Joely Chadwick had seven points and five rebounds, and Jaelah Brown had five points and nine rebounds as Oak Park (14-11, 8-0) defeated Simi Valley 59-28 to finish as unbeaten Coastal Canyon League champions. Yannie Savage scored 11 points for the Pioneers (11-15, 3-5), who will play Moorpark at Oak Park High on Friday at 7 p.m. to determine third place and the league's final automatic qualifying spot for the CIF-SS playoffs.

  • Taylor Swanson had 16 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and two steals, Alyssa Jackson finished with eight points, four rebounds and four assists, and Mathis Dritz had nine points and seven rebounds as second-place Westlake (20-8, 8-2) handed Marmonte League champion Oaks Christian its only league loss with a 46-44 victory in a regular-season finale. The playoff-bound Warriors reached the 20-win mark for the third time in four years. Omamoke Okah scored 12 points, Lola Donez had 11 points and Faith O’Daniel added nine points for the Lions (18-6, 9-1).

  • Jamilyn Carton hit six 3-pointers and finished with 34 points, six rebounds and three steals, Helena Koubek had 13 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks, and Riley Mann had eight points and two steals to lead fourth-place Agoura (15-12, 5-5) to a 67-49 win over third-place Calabasas (20-7, 6-4) in a Marmonte League game.

  • Skylar Komatsu finished with seven points, eight rebounds and three steals, Kai Mekari had seven points and four rebounds, Greta Heath had six points, four rebounds and two steals, Kierabella Coletta-Todd had four points and five rebounds, Lauren Davis had four points and four rebounds, Olivia Antu had four points and three rebounds, Kimiko Carmer had three points, five rebounds, four steals and two assists, Dana Cruz had three points, and Audrey De Mos had two points, seven rebounds and two steals to lead Newbury Park to a 40-27 win over Thousand Oaks in a Marmonte League finale.

  • Rachel Patrykus had 17 points, nine rebounds and three blocks, Addy Crawford scored seven points and snared 16 rebounds, and Rosa Varela added four points, four assists and two steals for Villanova Prep in its 42-28 loss to Carpinteria in a nonleague game.

BOYS BASKETBALL

  • Nasir Meyer soared for a one-handed tip-in of a missed shot to lift Agoura to a 61-60 win over Calabasas in a Marmonte League finale. Zach Ourfalian scored 11 points, Zane Miller had 10 points and Iggy Spayne added eight points for the league champion Chargers (19-9, 9-1). Gavin Murphy scored 22 points, Harrison Henderson had 12 points and Tidiane Sy had 10 points for the Coyotes (17-11, 5-5).

  • Isayah Garcia scored 11 points, Connor Claeys had 10 points, Troy McGovern had nine points, Stevie Amar had seven points, and Stevie Prudholme added six points to lead Oaks Christian (20-6, 5-5) to a 52-49 win over Westlake in a Marmonte League game. The Lions will play Calabasas on Friday at 7 p.m. at Agoura High to determine third place in league and an automatic playoff berth. Austin Maziasz finished with 22 points and eight rebounds and Kayden Elsokary had 11 points, five rebounds and three assists for the Warriors (16-12, 4-6).

  • Elias Chin finished with 22 points, 13 rebounds and six assists, Trent MacLean had 13 points, 13 rebounds and three blocks, Jacob Kjarval had 15 points, five rebounds and two steals, and Garrett Powell contributed six points, five rebounds and two steals to lead second-place Thousand Oaks (20-7, 7-3) to a 68-57 win over Newbury Park (14-14, 0-10) in a Marmonte League finale. Cooper Lucas scored 26 points to become the Panthers' all-time leading scorer with 1,533, surpassing Matt Solomon's mark of 1,520. Noah Cotton had 11 points and Charlie Muir added 10 points in the loss.

  • Tyler Hook scored 19 points, Jack Bannon had 10 points, Josh Castaniero and Marcos Jaquez each finished with nine points, and Chase Aronowitz contributed eight points to lead Camarillo (16-12, 4-4) to a 70-46 win over Moorpark as the Scorpions finished third in the Coastal Canyon League.

  • Campbell Gaston scored 19 points, Beckham Rutherford had 17 points, Josh Rosen had 11 points, Beck Zimmerman contributed nine points, and Cole Everett added seven points to lead Citrus Coast League champion Nordhoff (20-6, 11-1) to a 66-54 win over Santa Paula (9-9, 8-4) in a regular-season finale. The Rangers reached 20 wins for the first time since the 1966-67 CIF-SS championship team went 24-2. Jordan Ramirez had 16 points and five rebounds, Jose Valdovinos finished with 15 points and six rebounds, and Jeremiah De Santiago had eight points and 15 rebounds for the Cardinals (9-9, 8-4), who finished third in league to qualify for the CIF-SS playoffs.

  • Jack Morris finished with 16 points, nine steals, eight assists and seven rebounds, Isaac Weslow had 14 points, eight rebounds, two assists and two steals, and Nate Delgadillo scored 13 points and grabbed a program-record 21 rebounds (13 defensive and 8 offensive) to lead Fillmore to a 52-20 win over Hueneme in a Citrus Coast League finale. The Flashes (12-11, 8-4) finished second in league to qualify for the CIF-SS playoffs. Christopher Juanillo scored 11 points and Jacob Chavez had five points for the Vikings.

  • Tyler Pickett scored 29 points as Hillcrest Christian (20-5, 12-0) finished as unbeaten Omega League champions with a 65-43 win over Newbury Park Adventist.

BOYS SOCCER

  • Ric Fujita and Andrew Moscot scored goals and Jaden De La Cruz and Jaden Nachimzon had assists to lead Westlake (12-7-5, 5-2-2) to a 2-1 win over Oaks Christian in a Marmonte League match. Ian Borus scored the goal for the Lions (5-10-3, 4-5-1). The Warriors will play Agoura on Friday night to decide the league championship.

  • Justin Sosa finished with two goals and an assist, Jesse Davis had a goal and two assists, Keon Saleh scored a goal, and Dylan Svardburger had an assist to lead Agoura (8-5-3, 5-2-2) to a 4-0 win over Calabasas (4-11-3, 2-7-1) in a Marmonte League match. The Chargers will play Westlake on Friday night to determine the league championship.

  • Dragen Vrataric scored the goal for Newbury Park and Kevin Parker had the goal for Thousand Oaks (10-8-3, 4-5-1) as the teams played to a 1-1 draw in a Marmonte League finale. The Panthers (6-4-4, 4-3-3) finished third in league to automatically qualify for the CIF-SS playoffs.

  • Citrus Coast League champion Santa Paula (11-5-3, 10-1-1) finished the regular season with a 2-2 draw with Nordhoff.

GIRLS SOCCER

  • Cynthia Ramos netted a hat trick and had two assists, Lupita Cisneros had a goal and an assist, Jennifer Galindo scored a goal, and Ruby Magana had an assist as Santa Paula (15-1-1, 11-1) defeated Carpinteria 5-0 to clinch the outright Citrus Coast League championship.

  • Avery Oder scored two goals, Berkley Mape had a goal and an assist, Alyssa Assouad had a goal, and Kailey Supa and Abagail Seawright had assists as Oaks Christian (16-2-1, 10-0) earned a 4-0 win over second-place Westlake (12-2-3, 6-2-2) to finish as unbeaten Marmonte League champions. The Lions set league records for goals scored (49) and goals allowed (1) and finished perfect in league play for the first time in program history.

  • Newbury Park (7-9-2, 2-6-2) and Thousand Oaks (3-11-4, 1-5-4) played to a 0-0 draw in a Marmonte League finale.

  • Agoura (8-6-3, 3-5-2) and Calabasas (7-7-6, 1-5-4) played to a 0-0 draw in a Marmonte League finale.

  • Lily Shadden and Eva Goncalves scored goals as Foothill Tech (8-2-3, 7-0-3) defeated Thacher 2-0 to finish the regular season as undefeated Tri-Valley League champions.

  • Jillian Estrada scored two goals, including heading in the game-winner off a corner kick from Maggie Kearin in overtime, and Natalia Estrada had a goal as La Reina (8-3-1, 8-1-1) defeated Beacon Hill 3-2 in overtime to finish second in the Frontier League.

GIRLS WATER POLO

  • Kelsee Espitia scored five goals, goalie Kiana Kellner made 14 saves and had a goal, and Juliet Lazowski, Ella Montano and Abby Block had goals as Ventura lost to Santa Barbara 9-8 in five overtimes at the Channel League Championships. The Cougars finished fourth in league to qualify for the CIF-SS Division 2 playoffs.

  • Goalie Kathryn Salazar had 17 blocks, Addison Bruno finished with two goals and four steals, Jackie Starr had two goals and a steal, Gabrielle Swaim had two goals and block, Devin Varela had a goal and two steals, Mikayla Salas had six steals, and Kendall Nagaoka had three steals to lead Buena to a 7-4 win over Rio Mesa in the fifth-place game of the Channel League Championships. The Bulldogs (15-14) are hoping for an at-large berth into the CIF-SS Division 4 playoffs. Pairings will be announced Saturday.

  • Hannah Tully-Giles and Ruby Kamir each had three goals and goalie Ida Tully-Giles had 14 saves and two goals as Villanova Prep defeated Nordhoff 9-3 to finish the regular season with a 20-5 record.
