Sep. 22—With September being National Preparedness Month, the Thurston County Emergency Management Council is inviting county residents of all ages to a free emergency preparedness expo this Saturday, Sept. 23, at Peter G. Schmidt Elementary School in Tumwater.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., county staff will be at the school teaching planning and preparation tips to ensure people know what to do in case of an emergency situation, according to a news release from the county.

"Some simple planning, preparation and knowing what to do can help you and your family recover quicker from an emergency or disaster" Thurston County Emergency Management Manager Kyle Bustad said in the release.

Residents will also have the opportunity to learn how the county's emergency management system operates and enjoy free family-friendly activities.
