Tibbets sparks Abilene Cooper past Lubbock Coronado in District 4-5A volleyball

Mattie Tibbets, a senior middle blocker, smashed 22 kills, had five blocks and four aces to lead Abilene Cooper past Lubbock Coronado 25-16, 23-25, 22-25, 25-17, 15-7 in a District 4-5A volleyball match Friday at Cougar Gym.

Aliyah Davis added 10 kills, while Skyla Stark, Jazlyn Hatcher and Marissa Chavez had seven each as the Lady Cougars (14-16 overall, 3-3) took over sole possession of fourth place to end the first half of league play.

Karrigan Parrott had 30 assists, while Chavez and Hatcher had 25 and 23 digs, respectively. Lune Finch also had 19 digs.

The loss dropped the Lady Mustangs (11-14, 2-4) out of a tie with Abilene Cooper for fourth.

It’s the Lady Coogs’ third consecutive win, after a four-game skid that included three district matches.

Abilene Cooper plays front-running Lubbock-Cooper on Tuesday at Cougar Gym.

Lubbock-Cooper topples Wylie

At Woodrow, Hope Douglas and D’Mya Hill combined for 27 kills to lead Lubbock-Cooper past Wylie 25-15, 25-19, 25-19 in a District 4-5A match.

Douglass had a match-high 16 kills, and Hill followed with 11 for the Lady Pirates (29-4, 6-0).

Indiah Maroney led Wylie (18-16, 4-2) with eight kills and three blocks. Wesley Ruff added six kills, and Bri Johnston had five. Hanna Hood had 14 assists, and Callie O’Connell had 12. Brylee Pursley had 13 digs.

The Lady Bulldogs play Abilene High at 6 p.m. Tuesday in a league match at Bulldog Gym. AHS (13-17, 4-2) had a bye on Friday.
