Ticket Editor: Wood-fired pizza will be star of dog-friendly restaurant opening in Sarasota
Many of the best restaurants for pizza in Sarasota-Manatee are conveniently located within walking distance of each other in downtown Sarasota. Whether you prefer buying pizza by the slice from a pizzeria counter or savoring a freshly baked pie at a nice Italian restaurant, the options abound. However, if you venture north of Fruitville Road, your pizza choices become limited in the Rosemary District.
Fortunately, that is about to change. In fact, one of Sarasota's most beloved pizza-makers will soon be making his mark there. However, rather than operating a traditional pizzeria or restaurant, he will be serving as the chef at Sarasota's first dog bar, which is among the most exciting restaurant openings announced for Sarasota-Manatee.

Boo's Ice House & Dog Bar in Sarasota to feature wood-fired pizza by owner of old Goodfellas Cafe on Clark Road
Boo's Ice House & Dog Bar is scheduled to open Monday, May 22. Situated in the historic Ice House building on 10th Street in the Rosemary District, it's touted as "the place for dog lovers and their best friends to eat, drink, play and smile." I'm thrilled to soon visit this distinctive open-air establishment and maybe even bring our own adorable pup, Tucker. However, I'm most excited about tasting their pizza.
Chef David Grammer, who gained recognition in the area as owner and operator of the Goodfellas Cafe & Winery on Clark Road for 13 years before it closed in 2022, will be serving wood-fired pizza from an impressive oven.

"While this is sad news for the many south Sarasota patrons who enjoyed the incredible pizza, wine and Italian-American cuisine served up at Goodfellas, Boo’s Ice House & Dog Bar is thrilled to announce a silver lining: David Grammer and his team will be bringing his celebrated kitchen pedigree to Boo’s Ice House & Dog Bar!" states the press release I received from Boo's publicist shortly after Goodfellas closed.
"We’re excited for David to re-imagine some of his pizza preparations for the Boo’s audience in the Rosemary District, in addition to some all-new offerings designed specifically for our dynamic location at 1314 10th Street between Florida Avenue and Central Avenue. As we put the Boo’s menu together, rest assured this will be a delicious assortment of pizza and other elevated comfort food classics."

In addition to pizza, Boo's will be serving burgers, appetizers, and a rotation of "snowbird-approved poutine (with) a commitment to home-style meals made with fresh, flavorful ingredients." Having seen pictures, I can't wait to try all of these offerings. However, my feasting will begin with the pizza.
