Folks who want the rare opportunity to see Itzhak Perlman, one of the most legendary violinists in the world, perform in Akron on April 27 will need to act fast.

As of Wednesday, only 101 seats remained for his intimate show "An Evening with Itzhak Perlman" in E.J. Thomas Hall's 2,800-seat house. That included one seat in the mezzanine and 100 in the flying balcony. Orchestra seats on the floor have been sold out for several months, Tuesday Musical Executive Director Cynthia Snider said Wednesday.

April 27 will be the first time that Perlman, 77, has performed for Tuesday Musical in Akron since his November, 2000, recital, when all but 10 tickets were sold at E.J. Thomas Hall, according to a Beacon Journal report.

Snider expects a full sellout for this special program, which will include Perlman sharing intimate anecdotes and multimedia images from his life and career. That includes his many TV appearances, from the "Ed Sullivan Show" in 1958 to "Sesame Street" and "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert."

Perlman is performing the concert with longtime pianist and friend Rohan De Silva in just five other cities: Boston; Philadelphia; Long Island, New York; Austin and Naples, Fla. Booking the violinist for the historic concert cost more than $100,000, Snider said, but the response has been "wonderful."

Perlman, an Israeli-American violinist, is the winner of 16 Grammys, four Emmys and the Presidential Medal of Freedom. He was born in Israel in 1945 and emigrated with his family to study at the Juilliard School in New York at age 13.
