Tickets remain for annual Tech Night kickoff

Tickets remain available for Saturday's 61st Tech Night football kickoff event put on by the local chapter of the Knights of Columbus.

Tech Night takes place at the Knights of Columbus Council No. 3008 hall located at 4702 130th St.

Doors open at 5 p.m. Saturday, at which time a barbecue dinner will be available. The program is scheduled to begin at about 7:15 p.m. Tickets, priced at $30, are available at selectaseatlubbock.com and at the gate, organizers said.

Tech coach Joey McGuire is scheduled to be part of the program. Former Tech quarterback Rodney Allison, who now heads the Double T Varsity Club, is a special guest honoree.

Lubbock Christian University is picked eighth in the Lone Star Conference preseason poll of coaches, sports information and media released this week.

The Lady Chaparrals finished 8-7-2 last season and 5-7-1 and tied for ninth place out of 14 teams in the conference. LCU opens the season with matches Aug. 25 against Western Colorado and Aug. 27 against Fort Lewis, both in Durango, Colorado.

Dallas Baptist, which received 24 of 35 first-place votes, is the conference favorite. Angelo State, which received 10 first-place votes, is second and West Texas A&M third.

Lubbock Christian University is forecast for fourth place out of 17 teams in the Lone Star Conference preseason poll of coaches, sports information directors and media.

West Texas A&M, Angelo State and UT Tyler are slotted first, second and third. Out of the 44 first-place votes, West Texas A&M received 21, Angelo State 11 and UT Tyler seven. LCU didn't receive a first-place vote, but accumulated more points in the balloting than Dallas Baptist, fifth with three first-place votes, and UT Permian Basin, sixth with two first-place votes.

LCU opens the season Aug. 25-27 at the Seawolf Invitational in Anchorage, Alaska, with matches against Alaska Anchorage, Pittsburg State, Alaska Fairbanks and Emmanuel.

Lubbock Christian University is picked fourth among 10 teams in the annual Lone Star Conference preseason poll of coaches, sports information directors and media.

The Chaparrals are slotted behind Midwestern State, West Texas A&M and St. Mary's, who received 15, seven and three first-place votes, respectively. LCU received the other first-place vote and had a slight edge on UT Tyler for fourth.

The Chaps start the regular season with home matches Aug. 25 against Adams State and Aug. 27 against Fort Lewis.
