SISTER BAY - Tickets go on sale to the public Saturday, April 1, for the 42 concerts Midsummer's Music is presenting in its 2023 season.

The organization presents chamber music in intimate locations throughout Door County played by professional musicians from orchestras across the Midwest. As befits a chamber music series, concert locations include art galleries, churches, schools, a town hall, the Kress Pavilion in Egg Harbor, and a private home.

The schedule features 11 different programs featuring a mix of well-known composers alongside others who are less familiar. Among them is a two-concert collaboration between Memphis-based string instrumentalist and Door County concert favorite Eric Lewis with Midsummer's composer-in-residence Will Healy that includes a world premiere of a piano quartet by Healy. Concerts take place from June 14 to July 30 and, leading into the Labor Day weekend, from Aug. 23 to Sept. 4.

The programs and schedule are:

  • "Opening with a Flair," with works by Béla Bartók and Gabriel Fauré, with concerts June 14 (an Opening Night Gala with guest emcee Norman Gilliland of Wisconsin Public Radio), 17, 20 and 21;

  • "Women to be Heard," with works by llse Fromm-Michaels, Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel and Johanna Müller-Hermann, June 22 through 25;

  • "Remembering Rachmaninoff, Remembering Tchaikovsky," with works by Rachmaninoff and Tchaikovsky, June 29 and 30 and July 1 and 2;

  • "Brahms in the Spotlight," with works by Nkeiru Okoye, Sir Arthur Somervell and Brahms, July 6 through 9;

  • "Eric Lewis Meets Will Healy," July 13 and 14;

  • "Emperor Concerto & Jeannie Yu," with works by Bernhard Henrik Crusell, Joseph Haydn, and Beethoven's "Emperor" Concerto with Yu as piano soloist, July 15, 16, 19 and 21;

  • "Haydn (Michael) & Mendelssohn," with works by Michael Haydn, Ernest John Moeran and Mendelssohn, July 20, 21, 23 and 26;

  • "Schubert Trio," with works by Dmytro Klebanov and Franz Schubert, July 27 through 30;

  • "19th Century French Rapture," with works by Louis Vierne and Charles-Marie Widor, Aug. 23 through 26;

  • "Splendid Stories," with works by Jan Bach, Sibelius and Dvořák, Aug. 27, 29, 30 (a salon concert at a private residence), 31 and Sept. 3;

  • "Celebratory Fireworks!" with works by Dora Pejacevic, Paul Schoenfield and Richard Strauss, Sept. 1, 2 and 4, the latter a benefit Labor Day Gala with special cuisine and guest emcee Steve Robinson from classical music radio network WFMT in Chicago.

Tickets are $39 for adults, $17 ages 13-18 for regular Midsummer's concerts; $79 adults, $30 students for the opening night and salon concerts; $135 adults, $80 students for the Labor Day Gala.
