Tift school board approves new principals

Jun. 4—TIFTON — Tift County Schools recently hired two new principals during a brief called meeting.

Two new principals and a director were approved, plus a bid for construction at the Tift County High tennis courts.

Randy Sellars will be principal at Charles Spencer Elementary School; Patti Dean will be principal at Matt Wilson Elementary School. Tim Hatton will be director at Sixth Street Academy.

All three changes are effective July 1.

Sellars moves over from Northside Elementary, where he had been assistant principal. Dean comes over to Matt Wilson from Annie Belle Clark, where she has been assistant principal.

Hatton moves to Tift from Lowndes County, according to the Tift County Board of Education. Hatton had been in various roles in the school system there.

Tift County Schools Superintendent Adam Hathaway recommended the three for their posts. Board member Marilyn Burks made a motion to approve Hatton, Dean and Sellars, with members John Waddell and Rusty Harrelson seconding the motion. Their hirings passed unanimously.

The only other business on the agenda were the tennis courts. Parrish Construction Group bid $747,000 to be construction manager for the project.

Parrish was the only bidder for the project, Hathaway said.

"The cost they came back with is about what we were expecting it to be," he said.

Tift has 10 courts available at the high school but not all were usable this season.

Waddell made a motion to approve the bid, with a second from Pat McKinnon. The item passed unanimously.

Board members Burks, Jamie Hill, McKinnon and Waddell were physically present for the meeting, with Harrelson and Sam Wright voting by phone.
