Tiger Bay State Forest area wildfires contained but smoky conditions will persist

A wildfire in the area of Tiger Bay State Forest is now 100% contained although smoke will continue to be visible for several days, according to the Florida Forest Service.

The large fire started on March 25 and is now contained at 1,901 acres while a smaller wildfire is also contained at 111 acres, according to a Florida Forest Service Bunnell District Facebook post. Smoke will continue from the small fire as well, according to the Forest Service.

Wildland firefighters will keep mop-up operations going and improve the containment lines.

They will also continue to monitor both fires for several days until they can declare them “controlled or dead-out,” the Forest Service stated. No further updates are planned unless there is a significant change in their status.

The more than 50 personnel who battled the fire faced drought conditions, low humidity, hot temperatures, and unfavorable winds. Strike teams with fire engines and a task force of heavy bulldozers from the panhandle helped contain the fire.
