Tiger women hold off late rally to defeat Doane

Jan. 22—CRETE, Neb. — The Dakota Wesleyan women's bounced back from a cold-shooting Friday night loss to notch an 86-82 win over Doane in a Great Plains Athletic Conference contest on Saturday afternoon.

DWU defeated Doane 78-65 in the first meeting on Dec. 4 and led by double-digits for much of the second half on Saturday, but needed late free throws to hang on and complete a regular season sweep.

Holding a 41-38 halftime lead, DWU began to separate itself in the third quarter, growing the lead to 14 points 3 1/2 minutes into the period. But Doane stuck around, cutting the lead back to single-digits at 68-59 by the end of the third.

DWU led by 10 with 4:32 to play, but a furious rally by Doane saw the home team pull within 83-82 with 35 seconds remaining.

Matti Reiner posted a double-double with 23 points, 11 rebounds and five assists, as Jada Campbell tallied 19 points and six rebounds. Isabel Ihnen had 16 points and four rebounds for DWU.

Doane (9-13, 3-11 GPAC) was led by Mak Hatcliff's 32 points and seven rebounds, as four players reached double figures.

DWU (17-5, 9-5 GPAC) hosts Dordt at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26.
