Tiger Woods practiced at Augusta National, reports say. Will he play the Masters?

The golf world watched with bated breath Tuesday about whether Tiger Woods was flying from Florida to Augusta and what it meant for the Golf Hall of Famer's chances of playing the Masters next week.

Golf fans monitored a Gulfstream G550 plane over Twitter as it flew from near Woods' home in Jupiter to Augusta. It seemed like the latest confirmation that the five-time Masters champion would make his return just over a year since a car crash nearly killed him.

Twitter account RadarSports was following a plane owned by Woods' GTW Corp.

Tiger Woods reportedly arrived in Augusta with son Charlie

A source told Sports Illustrated Woods went to play a practice round with his son, Charlie Woods. He was reportedly joined by fellow pro Justin Thomas.

Reports had been swirling about Woods' possible return to the Masters since last week, when the tournament released the list of past champions who would return to play. Woods' name was still there, despite not making an official start on the PGA Tour since his crash in February 2021.

There also were reports Woods put in some practice rounds at his home course, The Medalist in Hobe Sound, Florida.

Will Tiger Woods play the Masters 2022?

The big question is whether all this means Woods will be part of the official field when the tournament starts Thursday, April 7.

Woods almost had his leg amputated after being in a single-car crash Feb. 23, 2021. Since then, he has competed only in the PNC Championship with his son Charlie in December. He rode a golf cart during that tournament.

"I don't want to come out here and just play," Woods told Jim Nantz at February's Genesis Invitational, which he hosts. "That's how I am. I need to feel that I'm confident that I can beat these guys, and I got to do the legwork at home. It's on me."

Woods has yet to confirm he would compete in the Par 3 Contest before next week's tournament.
