Tigers' Willi Castro to miss remainder of 2022 season with left hamstring strain
Digging for a double, Detroit Tigers utility player Willi Castro pumped the brakes halfway between first and second base.
Castro reached for his left hamstring upon reaching second base safely with two outs in the fourth inning. Trainer Doug Teter checked on Castro and removed him from the game with a left hamstring strain.
"I think he's out for the year," manager A.J. Hinch said after Thursday's 10-3 win. "We're going to run out of time. ... I haven't talked to him postgame, but those just aren't injuries that bounce back in a weekend."

The Tigers will make a roster move before Friday's game. There are five position players on the 40-man roster, and all could be candidates for a promotion: Zack Short, Daz Cameron, Josh Lester, Brendon Davis and Luis Garcia.
In Thursday's second inning, Castro collected his eighth home run of the season to give the Tigers' a 1-0 lead over the Kansas City Royals.
Castro, 25, hit .241 with 15 walks and 82 strikeouts in 112 games.
He bounced back from a miserable 2021 season, and the Tigers continued to expand his defensive versatility. This year, he has started 36 games in right field, 23 games in left, 14 games in center, 11 games at second, seven games at shortstop and three games at third.
