As well as giving really good recipe inspiration, TikTok is full of hacks to help make your cooking easier. The latest tip to go viral claims to stop your eyes watering when you're chopping up an onion. And considering onions and garlic are pretty much the start of every good recipe, we need this.

If you end up looking like a blubbering mess every time you attempt a pasta sauce or risotto recipe, TikTok user @cerealeatingghost claims to have a solution to stop your eyes watering around onions.

No, it's not a metal spoon in the mouth or wearing swimming goggles (although we can vouch for that), but rather leaving a wet paper towel on your chopping board.

Apparently, the acid in onions is drawn towards a water source (aka your tear ducts) which is what makes your eyes water. By popping a damp paper towel nearby as you're prepping your onions, the theory suggests the acid will be drawn to that instead. Clever!

Loads of users in the comments have been vouching for the tip, though some have said their eyes did sting a ~little bit~, but it did help with avoiding a full on crying moment.

This is definitely something we'll be incorporating into our cooking routine. You?
