Netflix's latest true crime offering Till Murder Do Us Part: Soering vs Haysom details the case of Derek and Nancy Haysom's brutal 1985 murder in their Virginia home. The ensuing investigation focused on their daughter Elizabeth, then 20, and her boyfriend Jens Soering, then 18.

While suspicion did not immediately fall on the pair, they fled to England after the murders and lived under false names. They were arrested in 1986 for fraud and using false papers.

Soering confessed to the double murder, telling police that he killed his girlfriend's parents while she waited for him at a hotel. However, he later recanted this confession and said he had in fact been the one waiting for his girlfriend Haysom, who had killed her parents.

At the criminal trial, Haysom testified that she manipulated her then-boyfriend into killing her parents because they did not approve of her relationship with him.

Soering was ultimately convicted of the murders, while Haysom was convicted of two counts of accessory before the fact to murder.

The new four-part documentary on Netflix returns to the case decades on, after both Soering and Haysom were released and deported from the US.

The final episode details how their early releases were secured and sees journalists and investigators try to piece together what happened that night. While Soering is interviewed as part of the documentary, Haysom was not involved in the production.

Where is Elizabeth Haysom now?

Over three decades on from the killing and the subsequent trial, the new Netflix documentary gives insights into Haysom's life while in prison and what she has done since her release.

Haysom served 32 years of her 90-year sentence at Fluvanna Correctional Center for Women in Troy, Virginia. During her time in prison, she was described in the docuseries as a "model inmate" and wrote a bi-weekly column called 'Glimpses from the Inside', which was published in the local paper.

Haysom was granted parole in 2019 alongside Soering. He said they never saw each other despite being released at the same time.

Haysom was deported to her home country of Canada, where the documentary detailed her relationship with her half-siblings on her father's side, who requested she not engage with the press for any further interviews.

This may be why Haysom has stayed out of the spotlight since her release, in stark contrast to Soering. It is believed Haysom still lives in Western Canada and she is not allowed to return to the US.
