Tiller-Watts use hot front nine at Jacksonville G&CC to win JAGA Spring Four-Ball

Clark Tiller and Johnny Watts shot 7-under 29 on the front nine of the Jacksonville Golf and Country Club on March 27 to win the Jacksonville Area Golf Association Spring Four-Ball by one shot at 7-under 65.

They defeated two teams tied for second at 6-under, Colby Misora-Taylor McCorkle, and Alex Grote-Molly Holbert. The teams of Billy Lodise-Bart Abstein and Rick Root-Sam Ohno tied for fourth at 4-under. Only three shots separated the top six teams.

Tiller and Watts began their round at No. 12 under the shotgun start format and parred their first seven holes. After turning, they birdied the first three holes on the front, then birdied Nos. 6 and 7 and eagled No. 8 before closing with three pars in a row.

Skip Lunsford-Kevin Buller won the net division by two shots over Mitch Howard-Cairo Santos at 10-under 62. It was their second net victory in a row in the spring four-ball.

Russell wins another

Miles Russell of Jacksonville Beach used a torrid streak during his first round to take charge and went on to win the Florida Junior Tour's Redland Open last week at the Redland Golf and Country Club in Homestead.

Russell, who attends Providence, shot 69-71--140 to win by three shots over Elijah Zamarron and Vijay Kumar. His first round included a string of four birdies and an eagle during a six-hole span.

It was Russell's third FJT victory of the season and his sixth in the last two years. He has finished among the top three in 13 of his last 18 FJT starts and among the top 10 15 times.

Contending at Super-Senior

David Anthony of Jacksonville and K.C. Caldabaugh of Ponte Vedra Beach scored high finishes at the Florida State Golf Association Super-Senior Amateur last week, at the Country Club of Ocala.

Anthony, the defending champion, shot 6-over 222 to finish fourth, three shots behind winner Tom Norton of Muscatine, Iowa. It was Anthony's fifth top-five finish in eight FSGA senior events over the last two years.

Caldabaugh tied for seventh in the 75-79 division with an 81.

Tickets punched

Daniel Owen of Ocala shot 72 at North Hampton to win a Florida Senior Amateur qualifier. Also making it to the championship was Steve Pitts of Ponte Vedra Beach and Kevin Altenhof of Cocoa (76) and Howard Sheffield of Jacksonville, Keith Bratton of Ponte Vedra and Gregory Seelinger of Boca Raton (77).

John Milton of Jacksonville shot 75 to tie for eighth and qualify out of the Heathrow Country Club and Kevin Sullivan of Ponte Vedra had a 77 to tie for seventh and emerge from the Buckhorn Springs qualifier.

The Senior Amateur will be April 11-13 at the Lago Mar Country Club in Plantation.

Make it eight

Cathy West made her eighth career hole-in-one on Thursday at the Deerwood Country Club, during the Deer Chase, the club's women's invitational.

West holed out at the par-3 second hole from 84 yards out, using a 13-wood.
