Tim Scott says Biden should start ‘apology tour’ at State of the Union address

Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) said President Biden should begin an “apology tour” at Thursday’s State of the Union address.

“I hope … President Biden starts tonight is an apology tour,” Scott said in an interview on CNBC’s “Squawk Box” with host Joe Kernen. “Apologizing for ‘Bidenomics,’ it has devastated average Americans. Apologizing for the chaos and the crime in our streets. Apologizing for the open border that has led to deaths untold throughout this country.”

Scott is speculated to be a front-runner for the role of former President Trump’s running mate. The South Carolina Republican also made a bid for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination himself but dropped out of the race in November.

“He ran, and he was OK,” Trump said about Scott at a rally in South Carolina last month. “He’s a respected guy. But he ran, and he did fine, and then when he got out, he endorsed me, and he’s a surrogate. He’s the greatest surrogate I’ve ever seen.”

In the CNBC interview, Kernen asked Scott if he knew anything about possible choices for Trump’s running mate, to which Scott responded he had “no inside information.”

“I certainly hope he picks a vice president who will be strong on our border, good for our economy, who understands the inner workings of our government, and frankly, who puts the American people above American politics,” Scott responded.

Scott also posted a clip of his interview on CNBC on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

“Tonight, at his State of the Union address, President Biden should apologize for Bidenomics, for the crime in our streets, and for the wide open border,” Scott wrote in the post.
