Tim Walton will have a base salary of $700,000 as Ohio State's new secondary/cornerbacks coach, and Perry Eliano will have a base salary of $450,000 as safeties coach, according to term sheets obtained Wednesday by The Dispatch.

Coach Ryan Day hired Walton away from the Jacksonville Jaguars and Eliano from the University of Cincinnati as part of his overhaul of the defense. Walton, a former Buckeye cornerback, has coached for 25 years in college and the NFL.

Eliano's cornerbacks were instrumental in the success of the Bearcats this year. Coby Bryant won the Thorpe Award as the nation's top defensive back. Ahmad "Sauce" Gardner was a first-team All-America pick.

Former Ohio State defensive coordinator Kerry Coombs has replaced Eliano on UC's staff.

As is standard with Ohio State football coaches' contracts, both Walton and Eliano can earn bonuses based on the team's success.

Walton and Eliano join defensive coordinator Jim Knowles as newcomers on the defensive staff. Defensive line coach Larry Johnson is the only holdover from the 2021 staff.
