Timberwolves’ Anthony Edwards nominated for Player of the Week

On Monday, Utah Jazz forward Bojan Bogdanovic and Washington Wizards guard Russell Westbrook were named the NBA Western and Eastern Conference Players of the Week, respectively.

Bogdanovic averaged 29.3 points and 4.5 rebounds on 62.3% shooting from the field as the Jazz went 4-0 on the week. On the other side, Westbrook averaged 22.3 points, 18.3 assists and 17.3 rebounds to come one triple-double away from breaking Oscar Roberton’s all-time record.

While Bogdanovic and Westbrook ultimately took home the award, Minnesota Timberwolves rookie Anthony Edwards was among those nominated for the award in the Western Conference after a strong week on the court.

The No. 1 overall pick averaged 27.7 points, 7.3 rebounds and five assists in three games with the Timberwolves. He shot 65.4% from the field, including 50% (12-of-24) from 3-point range.

His 27.7 points ranked 11th among all players on the week.

Edwards kicked off his week by tying a career-high with 42 points in a loss to the Memphis Grizzlies. He joined LeBron James as the only teenagers in NBA history to produce multiple 40-point games while his eight 3-pointers in that contest set a Timberwolves rookie record.

He followed that up with 25 points on Friday and 16 points on Sunday.

With the season winding down, Edwards has put together a strong stretch of performances. He has given the awards voters a real decision to make when it comes to Rookie of the Year and it should be interesting to watch how it unfolds.
