"I personally have only known Glenn for two years, but when we talk it is like we are long lost friends. The support and dedication Glenn gives is overwhelming," said Zeb Troyer, head coach of the boy’s high school basketball team. "I feel relaxed knowing he is doing the clock or on the bus with us at away games assuring our book is complete. He has always been a tireless supporter through exciting wins and difficult losses and has remained true to his school. "Do not worry folks, Glenn is not going anywhere. We just wanted to show him our gratitude for everything he does for us. Words cannot express how grateful we are for Glenn,” Troyer added.

Glenn is a graduate of NHS and a lifelong resident of Newcomerstown. It all began in the 1970s when then athletic director Gary Sterrett asked Glenn to run the clock. He sometimes spends as many as five evenings a week running the clock during basketball season and is also there to assist with any special events such as alumni games.“I have enjoyed the fellowship with the home players, coaching staff, and referees as well as the ones from opposing teams. I value the friendships I have gained by being a part of the volleyball and basketball programs," Glenn said. "It definitely keeps me busy during the winter months, and I always say I have the best seat in the house. I am not going anywhere, I hope to be a part of the Newcomerstown sports program for many years to come, and I do appreciate the recognition.”Glenn spent 47 years working as a meat cutter, first at Baker’s A.G. and later Baker’s I.G.A. Additionally he is the vice president of the local senior citizens center.

“Every time we go out to eat, people come up to Glenn and start talking, and I always ask how do you that person and he says 'Oh that is the coach from Garaway or the athletic director from Indian Valley,'" said his sister Vicki Speer. "He knows everyone for miles around that has anything to do with sports," she laughed.
