Timelapse Video Captures Mission to Dye Chicago River Green for St Patrick's Day

The city of Chicago continued its annual tradition of dyeing the Chicago River green for St Patrick’s Day, in a scaled-down celebration on March 13.

Craig Shimala filmed a timelapse video that showed the river-dyeing event in the early hours of the Saturday. Shimala told Storyful that he set his alarm early for filming as he’d heard “rumours all week” that the river would be dyed, despite reports the event would be cancelled.

“A look back at @chicago’s stealthy dyeing of the river green early on Saturday morning via timelapse,” Shimala wrote on his Twitter post.

City officials did not announce plans to dye the river to avoid crowds from gathering, media reported. Credit: Craig Shimala via Storyful
