It’s time for the Louis Vuitton-carrying Dallas Cowboys to ‘be phenomenal or be forgotten’

Dallas Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy has interest in getting past the pressure of 28 years failures since the franchise’s last Super Bowl title.

The Cowboys have five playoff wins and have not won more than one playoff game in the same post season since.

McCarthy says this team should not be burdened by the sins of past franchise failures.

“We have no responsibility for that,” McCarthy said. ”That’s really not even part of our No, that would be a waste of time. Can we move on?”

Just because McCarthy wants to move on and not discuss the past, doesn’t mean it isn’t being talked about inside and outside the Cowboys locker room. This current core finished two previous 12-5 campaigns with less-than-inspiring losses to the San Francisco 49ers in the 2021 wild card game and the 2022 divisional round.

It’s certainly on the minds of many as the Cowboys (12-5) as they head into the wild card battle against the Green Bay Packers (9-8) Sunday at AT&T Stadium.

Edge rusher Micah Parsons recalled the love given to former Cowboys coach Jimmy Johnson, receiver Michael Irvin, defensive end Charles Haley and all the former players on the title teams of the 1990s who showed up for Johnson’s Ring of Honor induction last month.

He said he wants what they have. Parsons doesn’t shy away from the task at hand and the journey ahead starting with the Packers.

“The regular season is cute,” Parsons said. “People will be like ‘Oh, you played great for a while,’ but this is legacy. There’s a term: ‘Be phenomenal or be forgotten.’ The way Jimmy Johnson and Michael Irvin and Charles Haley, the way people show them love, I think that’s where me, [Cowboys receiver] CeeDee Lamb, [Cowboys quarterback] Dak Prescott, all want to be into that legacy and earn our way into that type of Cowboys Hall of Fame.”

Parsons, who leads the Cowboys with 14 sacks and is a candidate for NFL Defensive Player of the Year, left no doubt of what he plans to be in the postseason.

“I’m gonna be phenomenal,” Parsons said. “[Expletive] phenomenal.”

Prescott is with Parsons when it comes to wanting to a win Super Bowl and leave his mark.

But he doesn’t need the examples of the past titles as any extra motivation.

“I want to be the best at my position, and it starts with winning a Super Bowl,” Prescott said. “Understanding that this opportunity is right here in front of us. As far as wanting what somebody else has, everything’s different, every situation is different. Not looking at other people, really, comparing myself. And yeah, understanding anytime I see any of those guys, especially whether it’s them getting in the Ring of Honor, it’s a moment to honor greatness. It’s a moment to think about maybe one of those reminders of what you want your future to look like. But if you don’t take care of the moment now and you don’t be thankful for what you have, you’ll never get there. That’s why I always say I’m just trying to be where my feet are.”

Prescott is where his feet are so his focus is on the Packers but his mind is on being phenomenal and getting to the Super Bowl.

Prescott has left himself constant reminders all season about Super Bowl LVIII set for Feb. 11 in Las Vegas and that includes his Louis Vuitton shoulder bags and luggage.

“I’ve got a lot of Louis Vuitton stuff,” Prescott said. “It’s because of the LV is Las Vegas. If I look at my bag, it’s all LV, literally. I just went and got my girl a bag the other day. … I’m like, ‘The only I’m getting is one of these ones with the LV logo on it.’

“That was an easy simply reminder.”

It starts now.
