Time Magazine’s Influential-People List Recognizes Kavanaugh, Blasey Ford
Time magazine included both Supreme Court justice Brett Kavanaugh and Christine Blasey Ford, the college professor who accused him of attempted sexual assault, in its list of last year’s 100 most influential people.
Blasey Ford testified to the Senate Judiciary Committee in September during Kavanaugh’s confirmation process, accusing him of pinning her to a bed when he was drunk, covering her mouth, and trying to remove her clothing at a high-school party in the early 1980s. Kavanaugh afterward denied her accusation, as well as accusations from several other women who claimed he had assaulted them.
Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell called Kavanaugh “one of the most qualified Supreme Court nominees in modern history” in the brief profile he wrote for Time‘s list. The Kentucky senator went on to praise the former D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals judge’s “resilience and commitment to public service,” “loyal devotion to family and friends,” and “undeterred reverence for the law.”
Senator Kamala Harris, who is seeking the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination, wrote Blasey Ford’s profile and praised the Palo Alto University psychology professor’s “unfathomable sacrifice,” which she said “shined a spotlight on the way we treat survivors of sexual violence.”
“Her story, spoken while holding back tears, shook Washington and the country,” Harris wrote.
