Last week, award-winning chef and author Vivian Howard shared to her social media accounts that her restaurant in Kinston will be closed during the summer.

"After 16 years of business, it is time to renovate and re-envision what we do. We’ll be closed this summer to work on a refreshed concept, one that suits Eastern North Carolina in 2022. With any luck, we’ll open our doors late fall. Thank you for 16 years of loving this era of Chef & the Farmer so fiercely," she said in a post to her website.

The restaurant located at 20 W. Gordon St. in Kinston closed as of June 5, with plans to reopen in the fall.

Howard and her husband, Ben Knight, opened the Kinston eatery in June of 2006. The couple were also the owners of the Boiler Room, which closed in March 2020 after serving customers for eight years following the COVID-19 pandemic.
