When a literary adaptation is in the works, movie lovers and bookworms are always faced with the same problem: Is it better to watch the film or read the novel first?

That age-old question just somehow became more complicated. HBO is releasing a new television series based on Audrey Niffenegger's bestseller The Time Traveler’s Wife—which has already been made into a movie once before. And chances are that most people have already read and seen both! 🤯

First published in 2003, The Time Traveler's Wife was adapted into a film starring Rachel McAdams and Eric Bana in 2009. Now, more than a decade after the movie was released in theaters, the complicated love story of Clare and Henry will be told once more—this time on TV.

Who will be in "The Time Traveler's Wife" cast?

Deadline reports that former Downton Abbey stars Rose Leslie and Theo James have been chosen as the series leads in The Time Traveler's Wife.

Rose will play Clare, a young woman who has been visited by a mysterious man with tales of the future since she was six years old, until he eventually becomes the love of her life. Theo will star opposite her as Henry, a man with a rare genetic disorder that causes him jump uncontrollably through time.

The rest of the cast hasn't been announced yet, but so far it seems pretty perfect!

When will "The Time Traveler's Wife" premiere?

The upcoming series, which is being adapted by Sherlock co-creator Steven Moffat, has no set release date yet. It's reportedly still in pre-production, so fans can expect more updates to come later this year.

In the meantime, watch the trailer for the original film above and try to imagine what the new show will be like!
