It’s time to vote on the first Charlotte Observer girls spring sports athlete of the week.

Each week, the newspaper will name a list of finalists based on coaches’ nominations.

Readers can vote as often as they like through Thursday.

Taylor Barrineau, East Lincoln Soccer: The East Lincoln had four goals to lead the Mustangs to wins over Polk County and Shelby.

Barrineau had one goal in a 2-1 win over Shelby in the season opener March 2.

Two days later, Barrineau had all three goals in a 3-0 win over Polk County.

Christina Brendle, Central Cabarrus Softball: The Central Cabarrus went 3-for-6 at the plate with three home runs and eight RBI to lead the Vikings (2-0) to wins over A.L. Brown and Carson.

Brendle was 2-for-4 with two home runs and four RBI in a 9-1 win at Carson in the season opener March 2.

Two days later, Brendle hit another home run and had four RBI in a 7-1 victory over A.L. Brown.

Faith Carrigan, Alexander Central Softball: The Alexander Central sophomore had a big week on the mound and at the plate to lead the Cougars to wins over Maiden, North Lincoln and Wilkes Central.

Carrigan went all seven innings on the mound with seven strikeouts, while going 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Alexander Central to a 4-1 win over North Lincoln in the season opener March 2.

Two days later, Carrigan pitched another complete game with eight strikeouts, while smacking a two-run home run to lead the Cougars to a 3-0 victory over Maiden.

Carrigan finished the week by going 2-for-2 with two RBI in a 13-0 win at Wilkes Central March 5.

Morgan Hart, Providence Day Soccer: The Providence Day junior three goals and an assist in wins over Myers Park and Weddington.

Hart had a goal and an assist in a 3-1 win over Myers Park March 5.

Hart, a University of Georgia commit, also had two goals in a 3-2 win over Weddington March 7.

Jillian Jones, Hibriten Softball: The Hibriten junior was 2-1 on the mound with 39 strikeouts in 22 innings of work.

Jones tossed a one-hitter with 14 strikeouts in seven innings of work to lead Hibriten to a 5-1 win over Wilkes Central, March 2. She was also 3-for-3 at the plate with three RBI in the same game.

Two days later, Jones had 15 strikeouts in a nine-inning game allowing only two hits in the 1-0 victory over St. Stephens.

Jones finished off her week allowing only five hits while striking out 10 batter in six innings of work in a 6-2 loss at defending 4A state champion, South Caldwell March 6.

Brinn Kimrey, North Stanly Soccer: The North Stanly senior had five goals and two assists in wins at Mount Pleasant and South Davidson this week.

Kimrey had two goals in a 4-1 win at South Davidson March 2

Kimrey followed that up with three goals and two assists in an 8-0 victory at Mount Pleasant March 4.

Megan Klingenberg, Charlotte Latin Lacrosse: The Charlotte Latin sophomore had 10 goals, two assists, nine draw controls, 10 forced turnovers and nine groundballs in the Hawks wins at Lake Norman and against Marvin Ridge this week.

Madi Lojko, Myers Park Softball: The Myers Park junior led the Mustangs to wins over Olympic and Sun Valley with her performances on the mound and at the plate.

Lojko earned both wins on the mound as the pitcher going all 14 innings with 20 strikeouts in the two wins.

She also went 3-for-6 at the plate with a triple, two runs and a RBI.

Meghan McHugh, Hough Soccer: The Hough senior had three goals and two assists in wins at Butler and Charlotte Latin.

McHugh started the week with a goal and an assist in a 9-0 win at Butler March 5.

Two days later, McHugh scored two goals and had one more assist in a 4-0 win at Charlotte Latin.

Amy Meister, Lake Norman Softball: The Lake Norman senior had a hot start to the season hitting .500 with two home runs and nine RBI to lead the Wildcats to wins over Cox Mill, North Lincoln and West Iredell.

Meister hit a three-run home run with her team down 8-3 in the top of the 7th inning at North Lincoln, to spark a six-run inning and a 9-8 win March 4.

Meister also had 19 put outs and assisted on one double play as Lake Norman’s first baseman.

Sam Mitchell, Ardrey Kell Softball: The Ardrey Kell sophomore first baseman went 6-for-8 with three doubles and five RBI as the Knights split games with East Mecklenburg and Hough.

Mitchell started the week going 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI in a 19-5 win over East Mecklenburg March 4.

Two days later, Mitchell was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI in a 9-5 loss at Hough.

Gracie Parker, Hickory Ridge Softball: The Hickory Ridge sophomore started her season with a bang, going 2-for-4 at the plate with two home runs and five RBI, while also pitching a complete-game on the mound allowing only three earned runs to help the Ragin’ Bulls to a 10-4 win over Piedmont March 6.

Kylie Reid, West Caldwell Softball: The West Caldwell senior had a big week at the plate and on the mound to lead the Warriors to wins over North Wilkes and Watauga.

Reid picked up both wins on the mound going 13 innings with 16 strikeouts in the two wins.

She also went 2-for-7 at the plate with three walks, including a walk-off grand slam home run to help West Caldwell beat Watauga, 10-7 March 4.

Reid, a Montreat College signee, also pitched a complete game shutout with 10 strikeouts in the 10-0 win over North Wilkes, March 6.

Erin Shaver, South Iredell Girls’ Soccer: The South Iredell senior had four goals and two assists in South Iredell’s wins over Hickory and Jay M. Robinson this week to help the Vikings to a 2-0 start.

Shaver scored three goals and had two assists in a 9-0 win over Jay M. Robinson March 2.

Two days later, Shaver scored a goal in the 2-1 win over Hickory March 4.

Brooke Van Epps, Cannon School Soccer: The Cannon School sophomore forward scored seven goals and had two assists to lead the Cougars to wins over Greensboro Day, Metrolina Christian and Swansboro.

Van Epps started her week accounting for both scores with a goal and an assist in a 2-1 overtime win at Greensboro Day, March 3.

Two days later, she had four goals in a 6-1 win over Metrolina Christian.

Van Epps scored two goals and had one more assist in a 4-3 win at Swansboro March 6.
