Timelapse Captures Magical Alberta Night With Northern Lights and Fireflies

Calgary-based photographer Siv Heang Tav captured timelapse footage of a spectacular night near Crossfield, Alberta, on June 10, as the aurora borealis shimmered above and fireflies twinkled below.

Heang Tav told Storyful, “In the video you can see aurora, a faint glow from noctilucent clouds on the horizon, and fireflies glowing in the grass both in the foreground and on the opposite side of the lake.”

On her Instagram account she describes herself as a “full-time mom” and an “astrophotographer by night.”

Heang Tav also told us, “Temperatures were a bit cold, so the fireflies were not actively flying much, just blinking in the grass.” Credit: Siv Heang Tav via Storyful
