Timelapse Captures Unique Coloration of Northern Lights in Alberta

A unique coloration of an aurora display was captured on the night of April 7 in Strathmore, Alberta.

Siv Tav told Storyful she drove from her home in Calgary to Strathmore to witness the aurora. The video Tav captured shows vibrant shades of green, red, and purple as well as shooting stars.

Tav told Storyful that the purple and red color that she spotted during the night was “a unique coloration”.

When solar particles collide with oxygen from the earth they can create “a rare red aurora”, according to public learning website Exploratorium. Credit: Siv Tav via Storyful
