Timelapse Shows Traffic Flowing in Wuhan After Coronavirus Lockdown Lifted

Hundreds of cars were seen travelling in Wuhan, China, as a 76-day lockdown used to contain the COVID-19 pandemic was lifted, on April 8.

Videos showing deserted streets during the coronavirus lockdown in Wuhan were in sharp contrast to a timelapse, seen here, posted to Weibo on April 8.

To mark the end of the lockdown period, residents in Wuhan were treated to a 30 minute light show which featured coloured displays on buildings on both sides of the Yangtze River, according to local media.

The lockdown on the capital of Hubei province was put in place on January 23, preventing all inbound and outbound travel by road, rail and ferry in an attempt to contain the spread of the virus, later named COVID-19.

China reported almost 82,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus on April 7, with 67,803 in Hubei province. 77,279 of those diagnosed with the virus had been discharged from hospital, Chinese health authorities reported. Credit: 初冬寒慕 via Storyful
