On May 11 Anna Moriah Wilson and Colin Strickland went for a swim at Deep Eddy pool in Austin. Hours later Wilson was found shot to death.

The homicide investigation quickly pointed to Kaitlin Armstrong, Strickland’s girlfriend, as the main suspect, though an arrest wouldn't come until a weeks-long manhunt ended at a hostel in Costa Rica.

On Tuesday, Armstrong, 34, was returned to Austin and booked in the Travis County jail on a murder charge.

Here is a look at the events leading up to and following the love-triangle killing.

Strickland and Armstrong had a relationship that spanned several years, but last October the couple briefly split. That's when Strickland, a professional and internationally recognized cyclist, met Wilson.

Wilson also was a professional cycler and was taking steps to advance her career at the time she met Strickland. The two were romantically involved for a short period before their platonic relationship developed and Armstrong and Strickland rekindled their relationship.

In January, Armstrong learned of the relationship between the two cyclists.

Wilson lived in San Francisco and was visiting Austin in May before a gravel race scheduled for the following weekend near Waco.

While she was staying with a friend in East Austin, Strickland picked up Wilson on his motorcycle for an afternoon swim. After the two finished, they shared a meal and parted ways around 8:30 p.m.

In the following minutes, Wilson was shot multiple times and was pronounced dead after police responded to a call from the residence on Maple Avenue shortly before 10 p.m.

On May 12, the day after Wilson was killed, Austin police interviewed both Strickland and Armstrong. Strickland was cleared, but a video showing a vehicle matching Armstrong’s arrive at the time of the murder narrowed the search for a suspect.

Armstrong was not arrested during the police interview and the next day she sold her vehicle for $12,200. On May 14, Armstrong boarded a flight in Austin headed for Houston and then New York.

On May 17, an arrest warrant was issued for Armstrong. The next day she boarded a flight in New Jersey with a fraudulent passport and left for Costa Rica, according to authorities.

Using the money from her car's sale and sporting a new haircut and color, Armstrong ended up at a hostel with an idea to start a new life and rekindle a career teaching yoga.

On June 29, the U.S. Marshal Service located and arrested Armstrong at the hostel on Santa Teresa Beach in Provincia de Puntarenas, Costa Rica. Among her possessions were her sister’s passport and a receipt for a nose surgery, according to U.S. Deputy Marshal Brandon Filla.

Armstrong was extradited to the United States on Saturday and booked in the Harris County Jail in Houston before being moved to Austin on Tuesday. She's being held in the Travis County Jail with bail set at $3.5 million.

Armstrong is set for an initial hearing in Travis County District Court on July 20. She is also facing a federal charge of unlawful flight to avoid prosecution. Additionally, the U.S. Marshals Service is conducting an investigation into Armstrong's use of her sister's passport for her flight to Costa Rica, Filla said.
