All-Times-Gazette baseball teams for 2022 season

South Central's Sam Seidel is the 2022 Times-Gazette Baseball Player of the Year.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR 

Sam Seidel, South Central

Seidel did it all this season, excelling at the plate and in the field. The senior shortstop led the area in batting average (.456), home runs (six), runs scored (43) and stolen bases (34) while also driving in 26 runs. Seidel was a Division IV All-Ohio honorable mention selection and Player of the Year in the Firelands Conference. He will continue his baseball career at Bowling Green State University.

CO-PITCHER OF THE YEAR 

Luke Bryant, Ashland

Bryant finished 5-3 with an area-low 1.15 ERA and 60 strikeouts in 48⅔ innings. The sophomore was selected co-Pitcher of the Year in the Ohio Cardinal Conference.

CO-PITCHER OF THE YEAR 

Karl Ferber, South Central

Ferber went 7-1 with a 1.53 ERA and 56 strikeouts in 45⅔ innings. The junior also batted .446 with three home runs, 30 RBIs and 32 runs scored. He was named Pitcher of the Year in the FC.

CO-PITCHER OF THE YEAR 

Nick Kandel, Hillsdale

Kandel finished 8-2 with a 1.46 ERA and an area-high 68 strikeouts in 52⅔ innings. The junior also batted .390 with 28 RBIs, 37 runs scored and 14 stolen bases. He was a Division IV All-Ohio honorable mention pick and an All-Wayne County Athletic League first-team selection.

CO-COACH OF THE YEAR

Jake O'Connor, Black River

With O'Connor leading the way, Black River finished as outright Lorain County 8 champions. The conference title was BR's first since winning the Firelands Conference in 1993. For that, O'Connor was named Coach of the Year in the LC8.

CO-COACH OF THE YEAR 

Mike Perry, South Central

South Central won its first FC title since 2001 in Perry’s second year at the helm, which netted him conference Coach of the Year honors.

FIRST TEAM 

Jon Metzger, Ashland — Arrows junior batted .358 with 11 RBIs and 20 runs scored; First-team pick in OCC.

Noah Hopek, Black River — Pirates junior went 5-2 with a 1.59 ERA and 58 strikeouts in 44 innings; Scored 24 runs and recorded 27 steals; First-team selection in LC8.

Carter Kocik, Black River — Pirates senior batted .309 with 24 RBIs, 25 runs scored and 25 stolen bases; First-team choice in LC8.

John Kray, Black River — Pirates sophomore batted .388 with 17 RBIs, 20 runs scored and 26 stolen bases; First-team pick in LC8.

Owen Barker, Crestview — Cougars junior batted .410 with 24 RBIs, 22 runs scored and 10 stolen bases; First-team choice in FC.

Hunter George, Crestview — Cougars senior batted .359 with 15 RBIs, 28 runs scored and 29 stolen bases; Went 3-1 with a 2.43 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 23 innings; First-team pick in FC.

Jarek Ringler, Crestview — Cougars sophomore went 5-3 with a 1.30 ERA and 54 strikeouts in 43 innings; Batted .357 with 14 RBIs, 25 runs scored and 13 stolen bases; Second-team selection in FC.

Mark Abel, Hillsdale — Falcons senior went 3-0 with four saves, a 2.27 ERA and 35 strikeouts in 37 innings; Batted .289 with 22 RBIs and 22 runs scored; Second-team pick in WCAL.

Jack Fickes, Hillsdale — Falcons sophomore batted .409 with four home runs, 25 RBIs, 31 runs scored and 11 stolen bases; Went 4-0 with a 1.42 ERA in 24⅔ innings; First-team choice in WCAL.

Ethan Goodwin, Hillsdale — Falcons senior batted .400 with 22 RBIs, 24 runs scored and 15 stolen bases; Second-team selection in WCAL.

Kollin Cline, Mapleton — Mounties sophomore batted .434 with 20 RBIs, 19 runs scored and 24 stolen bases; First-team pick in FC.

Luke Wright, Northwestern — Huskies junior went 5-0 with a 1.52 ERA and 55 strikeouts in 41⅓ innings; First-team choice in WCAL.

Kayden Hauler, South Central — Trojans senior batted .337 with 20 RBIs and 18 runs scored; First-team selection in FC.
