Every Monday, the Beaver County Times will recognize both individual athletes and teams for their impressive performances that took place in the last week of high school sports action. Here are the standout efforts from the week of Jan. 10.

Boys Basketball

Brandin Cummings, Lincoln Park

On a Leopards team with multiple scoring threats, Cummings — a 6-foot-2 sophomore guard — shined the brightest last week. In Lincoln Park’s 51-49 win over Montour on Friday night, he scored a game-high 27 points (tallying 24 before halftime). Prior to that, he scored 23 points on Monday in a 103-52 blowout victory over Ambridge and 16 on Tuesday in a 63-52 win over Central Valley.

L.A. Pratt, Lincoln Park

Pratt is another player who had a solid week on the hardwood for the Leopards. The 6-foot-5 senior guard may not have had the eye-popping statlines that Cummings did, but he came up big when it mattered most — following up a 19-point outing in Lincoln Park’s 103-52 win over Ambridge on Monday night by hitting the game-winning basket (finishing with eight points) in a 51-49 victory over Montour on Friday.

Nodin Tracy, West Allegheny

It was already evident that Tracy was a star on the football field — but so far this season, he’s been getting it done on the basketball court, too. Even in the Indians’ 83-76 loss to Chartiers Valley on Tuesday night, the 5-foot-11 junior guard finished with a team-high 23 points. He also netted 15 points on Friday in a 73-57 win over Trinity.

Markus Frank, Quaker Valley

One of the best scorers in Pennsylvania, Frank was at it again for the Quakers last week. In Quaker Valley’s 78-47 rout of Beaver Area on Friday night, the 6-foot-5 star senior forward scored a game-high 32 points. And earlier in the week, he tallied 21 points in Tuesday’s 66-36 win over Blackhawk.

Adou Thiero, Quaker Valley

Thiero — the other half of the Quakers’ two-headed monster — also had a stellar outing on Friday in Quaker Valley’s 78-47 victory over Beaver Area. The star senior guard — who already has Division I offers from UC Santa Barbara and Long Island — tallied 28 points in that contest after dropping 20 in Tuesday’s 66-36 win over Blackhawk.

Joseph Roth, Ellwood City

It’s often either Joseph or Alexander Roth — and, at times, both — that makes this list on a near-weekly basis, so it’s no surprise to see the younger of the duo’s name on here yet again. The 6-foot-5 sophomore forward scored a game-high 34 points on Tuesday night in the Wolverines’ 84-46 win over Mohawk.

Jake DiMichele, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart (OLSH)

One of the most elite scorers in the WPIAL — and quite possibly in all of Pennsylvania — had a couple more stellar outings for the Chargers last week. The 6-foot-3 senior guard netted 33 points in OLSH’s 87-37 blowout victory over Springdale on Tuesday night before scoring 25 in the Chargers’ 77-31 win over Riverview on Friday.

J.D. Azulay, Rochester

Azulay has been a consistent bright spot so far this season for the Rams, who have had a bit of an underwhelming start to their season. The 5-foot-9 senior guard scored 19 points in Rochester’s 71-44 win over Cornell on Tuesday night and finished with 20 in a 78-58 loss to Union on Friday.

Elijah Guillory, Moon Area

Even though the Tigers fell to Chartiers Valley 64-59 on Friday night, Guillory’s performance stood out. The 6-foot-4 sophomore wing finished with a game-high 27 points to give the Colts about all they could handle.

Donovan “D.J.” Walker, Aliquippa

Walker — most known for being a star for the Quips on the gridiron — has been showing the WPIAL this season that he’s not too shabby on the basketball court, either. The 6-foot junior guard scored 27 points on Friday night to allow Aliquippa to almost pull the upset over Seton LaSalle in what ended up being a 74-72 loss in overtime.

Girls Basketball

Emma Theodorsson, Moon Area

The type of performances Theodorsson has consistently put up on a nightly basis this season for the Tigers have been spectacular — that trend continued last week. In Moon Area’s 67-29 blowout win over Lincoln Park on Monday night, the star senior guard — and Bucknell commit — led the way with 21 points. She followed that up by dropping 19 points in Thursday’s 49-45 loss to Chartiers Valley and 17 in Saturday’s 41-38 victory over Upper St. Clair.

Reilly Sunday, Moon Area

Sunday is another Tigers player whose name has been somewhat of a staple of this weekly list. The 5-foot-9 senior guard and Duquesne commit scored 18 points in Moon Area’s 67-29 victory over Lincoln Park on Monday night. She also chalked up 20 points in Thursday’s 49-45 loss to Chartiers Valley and 17 in Saturday’s 41-38 win over Upper St. Clair.

Payton List, Beaver Area

List once again had a huge week for the Bobcats. The star senior guard scored 25 points in Beaver Area’s 50-26 rout of Quaker Valley on Thursday night to eclipse 1,000 career points and dropped 24 earlier in the week in a 64-58 loss to Montour on Monday.

Angelina Bratton, Ambridge Area

The Bridgers have struggled so far this season, but Bratton has still quietly had a handful of dominant performances. In Ambridge’s 60-44 loss to Hopewell on Monday, the 6-foot senior forward was responsible for half of her team’s scoring total with 22 points on the night.

Lauryn Speicher, Hopewell

Spiecher cracks this list for yet another week for the Vikings — and deservedly so. The 5-foot-8 junior star guard led all scorers with 24 points on Thursday night in Hopewell’s 54-38 victory over Central Valley after tallying 21 points in Monday's 60-44 win over Ambridge.

Azure Humphries, Hopewell

Humphries is another player for the Vikings who had a standout performance in the team’s 60-44 win over Ambridge on Monday night. The 5-foot-8 sophomore guard finished with 20 points in the contest.

Alyssa Gillin, Central Valley

One of the top scorers in the WPIAL as a junior last season, Gillin has picked up right where she left off this winter in her final ride as a Warrior. The 6-foot senior wing and Division II Slippery Rock commit scored 20 points to lead the way for Central Valley in Monday night’s 66-35 victory over New Castle before scoring 24 in Wednesday’s 48-43 loss to Lincoln Park.

Julz Mohrbacher, Freedom Area

Mohrbacher was one of the key pieces to return for the Bulldogs this season — and so far, she’s shown why. The junior guard scored a game-high 23 points to help Freedom Area slide past Laurel in a 53-49 win on Monday night.

Renae Mohrbacher, Freedom Area

Renae Mohrbacher — who’s had a handful of standout performances for the Bulldogs already this winter — joins her younger sister on this list. The senior guard added 17 points in Freedom Area’ 53-49 victory over Laurel on Monday night. She also netted 18 points on Thursday in a 47-34 win over Ellwood City.

Shaye Bailey, Freedom Area

Bailey was solid last week for the Bulldogs, too, adding another player on this list for the already well-represented Freedom Area squad. The sophomore guard scored 18 points in the team’s 47-34 victory over Ellwood City on Thursday night.

Angel Henry, Aliquippa

One of the bright spots in what’s been a disappointing start for the Quips so far this season, Henry helped her team pick up one of its only wins of the season last week. In a 60-24 blowout victory over New Brighton on Monday night, the 5-foot-9 junior guard scored 17 points.

Leanna Rucker, Cornell

Even in a 60-27 loss to Eden Christian on Monday night, Rucker seemingly did all she could to help her team have a fighting chance. The 5-foot-11 sophomore forward led all Raiders with 19 points in the contest.

Corynne Hauser, Rochester

Another week, another Hauser appearance on this list. This time, the star senior guard — and Kent State commit — scored 37 points to lead the Rams in their 76-57 victory over Bishop Canevin on Monday night. She followed that performance up by dropping 25 on Thursday in Rochester’s 55-48 win over Mohawk.

Mekenzie Robison, Rochester

Though, at times, Robison’s been overshadowed by Hauser — the senior guard has been consistently spectacular in her own right this season for the Rams. She finished with 17 points in Rochester’s 76-57 victory over Bishop Canevin on Monday night before tallying 16 points in Thursday’s 55-48 win over Mohawk.

Emily Schuck, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart (OLSH)

Schuck had a solid outing in OLSH’s 60-29 victory over South Side on Thursday night. The 5-foot-8 senior forward finished with 18 points in the contest.

Quinn Borroni, Blackhawk

Borroni helped the Cougars exorcise some demons on Saturday by defeating North Catholic — which Blackhawk hadn’t done since 2013 — in a 63-37 victory. The junior guard tied for the team-high in scoring with 15 points and allowed Blackhawk to remain undefeated.

Alena Fusetti, Blackhawk

Fusetti was just as key a factor in Blackhawk finally getting over the hump and beating North Catholic on Saturday for the first time since 2013. In the Cougars’ 63-37 win over the Trojans, the 5-foot-9 sophomore combo guard scored 15 points to tie Borroni for the team-high.

Luis Carrasquillo, Moon Area

Another Tigers’ junior, the 172-pound Carrasquillo, also pinned his opponent to add on to Moon Area’s dominating outing on the mat in Wednesday’s 42-12 dual-meet victory over the Bobcats. Carrasquillo handled business against Aaron Miller in 4:44.

Gabe Castner, Moon Area

It took Caster, the Tigers’ 215-pound senior, just 20 seconds to pin Beaver Area’s Gavin Patton in Moon Area’s 42-12 dual-meet victory over the Bobcats on Wednesday.

William Campbell, Quaker Valley

Campbell, the Quakers’ 172-pound junior, only took 1:13 to pin Hopewell’s Austin Gouza on Wednesday in Quaker Valley’s 60-12 dual-meet victory over the Vikings.

Patrick Cutchember, Quaker Valley

The Quakers’ 215-pound junior, Cutchember, took care of his opponent quickly on Wednesday in Quaker Valley’s 60-12 dual-meet victory over Hopewell. He pinned the Vikings’ Adam Ware in 1:11.

Hank Berner, Hopewell

One of the few bright spots for the Vikings on the mat on Wednesday was the performance of Berner. The 285-pound freshman pinned Quaker Valley’s Sebastian Juarez-Safran in 5:17 in Hopewell’s 60-12 loss to the Quakers.

Hoff — a senior for the Tigers — tied for first in the all-around in Moon Area’s double section win over Hopewell and South Side on Thursday night. She also placed second in the vault with an average score of 9.4 in the Diamond division in Saturday’s 2022 Moon Invitational.
