Times-Tribune staff honored with Kentucky Press Association Awards
Jan. 30—BOWLING GREEN — The Times-Tribune did well in the Kentucky Press Association's annual Excellence in Kentucky Newspapers Awards announced Friday night.
The newspaper had three staff members honored with individual awards in the multi-weekly division.
Nighttime Editor Brad Hall brought home a total of three awards including first place for Best Front Page — up from second last year — and two second places in the Best Column and Best Headline Writer categories.
The "Hall Things Considered" column runs almost every Thursday and explores Hall's faith in relation to our community and the world at large. Hall's headlines are not only catchy but give readers an immediate sense of what a particular story is about.
"Brad's talent is evident from his visual eye to his clever wordplay," Times Editor Janie Slaven said. "We're lucky to have him as our nighttime editor."
Slaven herself secured third place for Best Business/Agribusiness Story with her coverage of the closing of Gibson's Music Story in downtown Corbin.
Rounding out the Times' honorees was former staff writer Christen Gibson, who won two third place awards for Best Breaking News Coverage (Bolton's Towing fire) and Best General News Story about Corbin's celebrating the life of Eli Hill.
The 2023 Excellence in Kentucky Newspapers were announced during KPA's annual convention held in Bowling Green last weekend.
