Tina Knowles-Lawson Files For Divorce From Richard Lawson

Beyoncé and Solange’s mother, Tina Knowles-Lawson, has filed for divorce from actor Richard Lawson.

According to TMZ, Knowles-Lawson filed for divorce on Wednesday. Legal documents list the couple’s separation date as Tuesday and irreconcilable differences as the reason for their split.

Lawson and Knowles jumped the broom in 2015. Though they didn’t share any children, they both famously had children from previous marriages. Knowles-Lawson shares the “Lemonade” singer and Grammy Award-winner Solange Knowles with her first husband, Matthew Knowles, while Lawson had Bianca and Ricky Lawson with ex-wife Denise Gordy.

Documents show Knowles-Lawson is asking the court to terminate their ability to order her or Lawson to pay spousal support. She is also reportedly in the process of changing her last name back to just Knowles.

While news of the couple’s split may surprise some, Knowles-Lawson has not recently posted her soon-to-be ex-husband on social media. His last appearance on her socials was a picture of them attending the Vanity Fair Oscar party in March.

“Never been one to waste some good light!!! so we had to sneak a picture at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party last night with my boo. @mrrichardlawson,” she captioned an Instagram post of them at the party.

The actor’s sister, Gwen, introduced Lawson and Knowles-Lawson decades ago. Both were married then, and Knowles-Lawson was pregnant with Bey. However, Lawson confessed in a 2021 Instagram post celebrating their wedding anniversary that he was immediately smitten with her.

“I thought you were one of the most beautiful women I had ever met. Breathtaking.!! The thing that was so striking was that your beauty continued to be enhanced by your incredible heart, compassion, empathy, generosity, and philanthropy,” he wrote next to a photo from their wedding. “You were pregnant with Beyonce at the time, and married, so my incredible attraction for you then, could only live in my fantasy. As we remained friends throughout the years, I took great pleasure in observing you become the ultimate mother, especially for your own daughters, but also for the way you care for and nurture women all over the world,” he captioned the post.

Reps for the Knowles and Lawson families have yet to address the split publicly.
