Tina Peters in court for pre-trial readiness conference

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — Former Mesa County Clerk Tina Peters is slated to make a virtual appearance in court Tuesday for a pre-trial readiness conference ahead of her upcoming trial.

UPDATE:

The District Attorney’s Office and defense council said they were ready to proceed in the case.

During Tuesday’s hearing, it was decided that each side would be allotted 30 minutes for opening arguments and 45 minutes for closing statements. The defense stated they would be adopting Peters’ previous attorney’s witness list. The court decided there would be three alternate jurors. The prosecutors will have until January 23rd to submit an exhibit list.

Looking towards the future, February 7th is when jurors come in to fill out questionnaires with selection taking place the next day. The Mesa County Justice Center court docket says Peters’ jury trial will begin on February 9th but with numerous delays in the past will this date change too?

District Attorney Dan Rubenstein told Western Slope Now there will be no more delays, “The investigation began, at the point we start trial, about two years and four months since we found out about it, two and a half years from the date of violation. It’s been a long time coming. We do not expect there to be any further delays and do anticipate that we start [the] trial in February.”
