Tina Peters criminal trial delayed again
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — The criminal trial for former Mesa County Clerk and Recorder Tina Peters has been delayed again, one day before trial preparation was scheduled to start.
Mesa County District Attorney Dan Rubinstein confirmed to WesternSlopeNow Peters fired her attorneys Tuesday. District Court Judge Matthew Barrett approved the hiring of Carbondale attorney Michael Edminister from Douglas Richards and other attorneys in Denver’s Richards Carrington law firm.
Barrett rescheduled the criminal trial from July 31 through Aug. 12. WesternSlopeNow will livestream the trial from the courtroom.
The trial was originally scheduled to begin in March of 2023.
Peters Tuesday also told the court she has COVID-19. Barrett ordered her to submit an official test from a doctor by the end of the day on Thursday.
