A woman has gone viral on TikTok after she said an employee at a car inspection station "forced" her to wait outside because her outfit was "inappropriate."

On July 21, Tia Wood uploaded a series of videos to TikTok saying she was "kicked out" of a car inspection station for wearing a crop top and shorts. According to Wood, a female employee told her she wasn't allowed to wait in the customer waiting area because of her outfit, and was asked to walk to the back of the building while her car was being inspected.

“Told to wait outside the inspection station because my shirt was too inappropriate," she captioned the video which has since been viewed more than 1.5 million times.

Wood's video was met with an uproar from viewers, divided over whether or not the garage had any right to ask her to wait outside.

"It does look like a bathing suit top,"one person commented. "But damn, there's no dress code for sitting in a waiting area."

"It's literally July and it's hot outside," someone else added. "There's literally nothing wrong with this outfit."

"Has this person never seen what women dress like in the summer?" wrote another. "This is such a normal outfit."

One person argued that since it was at a private business, their rules are up to them.

"It's a private business. They make their own rules. They don't care if they hurt your feelings. Their place, their rules," they wrote.

After Wood's viral video sparked a debate amongst viewers, she shared a an additional video disclosing more details about the incident over the phone with a representative from the garage in question.

She recorded herself calling the garage and asking them if they have a dress code that they normally enforce. The representative on the phone, however, revealed that they do not have a dress code, but that they do expect customers to wear a mask due to COVID-19.

"I was kicked out of an inspection station yesterday because of something I was wearing," she told the representative on the phone. "If there's not a dress code, do you know why that may have happened?"

She reiterated the story to the woman on the phone, revealing that it was a female employee who instructed her to wait at the back of the building.

The employee Wood spoke to on the phone apologized for her experience on behalf of the company and assured her that her complaint would be handled internally.

“She handled that wonderfully,” one TikTok follower wrote. “You can tell she’s mad, too, but she stayed polite and professional.”

“That lady was so incredibly kind and reassuring,” another added. “The way you handled this is so impressive. Glad you stood up for yourself.”
