Tinder’s Alexa Mateen Pays $16 Million for Tom Rosenberg’s Beverly Hills Estate
Though it first popped up for sale in February with a hugely aggressive $25 million ask, only to be delisted just one month later, records reveal the custom-built Beverly Hills manor of Academy Award-winning producer Tom Rosenberg (“Million Dollar Baby,” “The Ugly Truth,” “Adrift,” “She’s The Man”) has now sold off-market for just $16 million. While that’s still a big number, it’s also a heavily discounted 36% below what the Chicago native wanted for his Sunset Boulevard home.
The new owner is Alexa Mateen Abdi, a 35-year-old L.A. native and former tech executive-turned-fashion designer. Abdi was one of the very first employees — a “founding member,” in fact — at Tinder, the dating app juggernaut reportedly now valued at north of $10 billion. Tinder cofounder Justin Mateen is Abdi’s older brother, and fellow cofounder Sean Rad is a longtime family friend.
Abdi served as Tinder’s head of U.S. Expansion but ultimately left the company to launch her own fashion line, the 90210-based LALA LÉXA. And within the past two years, she’s married commercial real estate developer Pouya Abdi; like his wife, Pouya was born to Iranian parents and raised in Beverly Hills, so the couple’s big residential purchase doesn’t stray far from their home turf.
Rosenberg bought the property in 2011, paying $8 million. At the time, the one-acre lot included a sublime midcentury modern home designed by noted architect Arthur Froehlich, complete with terrazzo aplenty, gorgeous stacked stone fireplaces, and walls of glass that took in views of the posh Los Angeles Country Club greens. But Rosenberg wanted something different, and so the Froehlich house was controversially razed and replaced by the current structure — a very white and rigidly symmetrical traditional mansion. There are five bedrooms and seven baths in nearly 8,000 square feet of living space.
