The team behind Netflix's hit film The Tinder Swindler have confirmed a new true-crime documentary series is on the way.

Following the massive success of Raw TV's film about a scammer on dating site Tinder, the production company is now turning its lens to the true story of a gap year gone tragically wrong.

In the three-part series Dead in the Water, coming next year to Prime Video, filmmakers will have access to photos and recordings made by British couple Chris Farmer and Peta Frampton on a holiday to Central America in 1978.

While their trip started out as an idyllic holiday to one of the most beautiful places on earth, they ultimately faced a gruesome end at the hands of a vicious killer. Their killer was never found, and now, the team behind Dead in the Water will revisit the infamous cold case to see if they can finally catch Chris and Peta's murderer.

The press announcement for the film reveals: "This is the story of a gap year gone terribly wrong, and a tale of two families on either side of the Atlantic, united by grief and bound by a common purpose – the pursuit of a killer, even when it seemed untenable, decades after his heinous crimes were committed."

The documentary is based on the book of the same name by Penny Farmer, Chris' sister, who has been on a 40-year search to find the perpetrator.

Documentarian Niamh Kennedy has signed on to direct Dead in the Water after previously working on TOWIE star Joey Essex's mental health film Who Am I? and chronciling The Troubles in The Life After.

Producers Raw TV are not only behind The Tindler Swindler, but also Netflix's Don't F**K With Cats — which documented the murder of university student Jun Lin by Luka Magnotta. The production company has also released the Sundance Film Festival hit Three Identical Strangers and travelogue Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy.

Dead in the Water will premiere exclusively on Prime Video in the UK, Ireland, Canada and the Netherlands in 2024.
