Tiny home project for homeless veterans receives $500K donation

DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) – In Dauphin County, the tiny home project for homeless veterans received a big donation on Friday.

Crews began installing doors and windows at Veterans Grove.

“Renewal by Andersen” donated over $500,000 worth of materials and labor.

Veterans Grove sits on five acres of donated land behind PennDOT’s riverfront office in Harrisburg.

It will have 15 tiny homes and a community center with all types of services.

Linda Johnston, chief culture officer of Renewal by Anderson said, “But when you think of what this community is gonna help, it’s gonna help veterans. And veterans have sacrificed so much for us, their families sacrificed so much to give us everything we need, and you never want to hear of a veteran that’s homeless.”

Tom Zimmerman, chairman and co-founder of Veterans Outreach of Pennsylvania said, “People are saying you’re almost done, no we’re not, we want to be that go-to organization that any veterans can come to and we can guide them and point them in the right direction.”

Scott Brodkorb, CEO of Renewal by Anderson said, “It’s been an amazing two years, I’m looking forward to the final product and walking in here when the grass is in and a little bit warmer and see the veterans enjoying the facility.”

Construction should be done by late spring or early summer.
