Tioga captures team title at Windsor Christmas Wrestling Tournament

Tioga put four wrestlers in the finals and captured the team title at the Windsor Christmas Wrestling Tournament on Thursday.

The two-day event included wrestlers from 36 teams. As part of COVID protocols, it was held without spectators.

The Tigers piled up a total of 154.5 points. Indian River was a distant second with 107, Honeoye Falls-Lima third with 106.5, Burnt Hills fourth with 92 and Chenango Forks fifth with 89.

Gianni Silvestri placed first at 118 pounds to give Tioga one individual champion. Runners-up for the Tigers were Caden Bellis at 132, Donavan Smith at 145 and Emmett Wood at 152.

Silvestri captured the title at 118 with a 5-0 victory over Chase Nevillis of Copenhagen.

Four from Section 4 win titles

Three other wrestlers from Section 4 joined Silvestri as titlists.

  • Darren Florance of Bainbridge-Guilford/Afton/Harpursville was champion at 102 pounds with an 8-2 decision against Gavin Mangano of Shoreham-Wading River.

  • Tyler Ferrara of Chenango Forks took the 126-pound title with an 8-4 triumph against Gabriel Goss of Burnt Hills.

  • Gabe Monroe of Windsor earned the 189-pound crown with a 9-1 victory against Eric Carlson of Manhasset.

Other Section 4 second-place finishers were Ethan Hart of Corning at 160, Ty Beeman of Waverly at 215 and Gannon Johnston of Horseheads at 285.

Section 4's third-place finishers were Joe Florance of B-G/A/H at 118, Charles Loucks of Corning at 152, Ousmane Duncanson of Tioga at 160 and Devin Beach of Spencer-Van Etten/Candor at 189.
