Tioga County sheriff: Investigation continues into crash that killed Endicott man

The Criminal Division of the Tioga County Sheriff's Office said an investigation is continuing into a Feb. 13 head-on crash in the Town of Spencer that claimed the life of a Broome County man.

According to sheriff's office investigators, the crash took place shortly before 4:30 p.m. on state Route 96 near the intersection with East Spencer Road.

An initial investigation revealed that a white 2014 Audi A4, driven by a 32-year-old man, was westbound on Route 96 when it collided head-on with an eastbound 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix driven by 43-year-old Daniel J. Kaczynski of Endicott.

Both drivers were extricated from their vehicles by emergency personnel and subsequently transported to Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pennsylvania, in critical condition.

The sheriff's office said Kaczynski died Feb. 18 at Robert Packer Hospital from the injuries he sustained in the crash.

The other driver, whose name has not been released, remains hospitalized in stable condition, officials said.

The Tioga County Sheriff’s Office asked anyone with information about the crash to contact the Criminal Investigations Division at 607-687-1010.

Go Fund Me appeal organized for family

A GoFundMe drive has been established for Kaczynski's family.

"Dan would give anyone the shirt off his back, (to) friends, neighbors, strangers," Go Fund Me organizer Christa Munley said.

Munley said the money raised will be used for medical bills, funeral expenses and for Kaczynski's children. The appeal's goal is $25,000.
